:dsm: Please feel free to express your opinions or ideas about what I am doing.
The project is a '90 eclipse base model 1.8L 5speed. The 1.8 is recieving custom rod and piston combo custom balanced with a custom billet camshaft. Head will recieve all porting polishing etc. And the turbo well I would like to hear from you all about how much boost I should run with 7.5:01 pistons and solid metal head gasket- i want an honest 220 -250 hp. thats all. Well, quite a bit for a 1.8L. Maybe more power? Will this block handle it? I wonder what 15 psi would do aside from breakage. but how much horsepower would a
1.8 and 15 psi yeild :confused: Lets see! :D
 
well i heard that the t3/t4 turbo is good for the 1.8l turbo and i'd say about 7-10psi

maybe if u build the engine up really good but it may not last long if u run that much haha
 
Tune the shit out of it and maybe. But I would be safe and only run 10-12. And occasionly turn it up to 14-16 and so on. And make sure to keep it loged to keep an eye on the motor.
 
Okay, I understand it's a project, but you did ask for opinions.

I just can't comprehend why you'd bother with going through the cost and challenge of turbocharging a factory N/A, and compound the complications by starting with a displacement handicap.

I know, it's a project. But cheap factory-turbocharged, already-troubleshot cars are plentiful and cheaper than what you want to do.

I don't mean any criticism in this, I am only honestly baffled by it.
 
There is a member on these boards with a boosted 1.8l, forgot his username though (it was a yellow 1g 1.8l). You might want to talk with him if you're serious about this. Also, I hope you have a second car as a backup; because this could blow up in your face if something is not done right.

But I would definately try and talk with someone who has done it before as that would be the best way to form an idea of how you would like to go about this. Anyone remember the member who has that boosted 1.8l on this site? His car is yellow, I know that :)
 
that guys name is ginsu417, and id think he wouldn't help you he sees himself as a 1.8L god and is pissed off at the rest of the 1.8L community for not respecting him...blah, blah, blah. anyways there is another person who is prettty heavyinto turboing it that im sure would be more than happy to help you, i dont quite remember his sn though

BTW plan on having another car to drive when this 1 breaks. Ginso put over 10k in that car and is only running 375
 
Dude i think buildin up your 1.8 is tight as long as you got the money. Itll be awesome when you can blow away a gst with it. LOL... I would only run 10 psi for a while see how it goes( if its enough power for ya), then increase the boost as you need dont go over 14. Make sure you tune the hell out of it!
