I've noticed lately my boost surges under heavy load. I've adjusted the boost controller to run around 10 psi. However, in first gear it only runs around 7. In second, and third it stays around 10. However, when I'm really getting on it, it jumps to 20 or more psi in fourth and fifth gears. Typically in fourth and fifth it runs at 10 psi. This is only when I'm really getting on it. I've also noticed my dip stick blows out and oil sprays when this happens.

I'm really scared of running lean. Just ordered a wideband today. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thought maybe boost leak in low gears could be giving the appearance of the boost controller being set at 10 psi. I have a fmic and hardpipes in the mail, so I should have leaks fixed soon.

14b turbo
turbonetics manual boost controller
SunPro boost gauge
DejonTool intake
K&n airfilter and honey cones removed from MAF
Valve cover cone breather

This is all I can think of regarding my intake system.

Had you made any changes prior to the boost surge phenomenon? The dip stick blowing out suggests a major blow-by problem. What are your cylinder compression measurements?

PS. I'd suggest correcting any boost leaks as is before changing the landscape with an FMIC, etc. It's always nice to have a known starting point before launching into new territory :)!

So far I haven't changed anything with the boost. I noticed it started one day over the winter so I turned the boost down. I didn't need the extra power in the winter anyway. Now that its warm i've discovered it wasn't due to whether changes. Anyone know if turbonetics have a warranty on boost controllers?
