Since my car is only hitting 12 psi and bogging down with a major power loss, i'm thinking I might have a boost leak. My question is will somebody who has a turbo with the stock
14b please tell me what your boost guage sits at when at idle in neutral? Mine is below the white spot in the black area and I think I remember being told that it should be right at 0 or somewhere in the white spot. Does that mean I have a vaccum leak? It also moves around a little bit but doesn't really feel like an idle surge. My car misses a little bit when it does it...you can even hear the miss out the exhaust. The motor is rebuilt and I have 140 compression on all 4 cylinders. Also when I get on it and boost the turbo to 12psi I can smell exhaust in my car badly. Any ideas?
 
At idle it should sit around 19-18 HG (Inches of mercury) and not zero if you have the autometer boost gauge or any boost gauge that reads vacuum and boost. The exhaust smell is you running extremely rich due to un-metered air (boost leak). I highely recommend doing a boost leak test. After doing this test, let us know if your intake tract held 20 psi for at least 30 seconds before hitting zero again.
 
Running rich off of a boost leak would kill my gas mileage as well right? I think i'm only getting 20 miles to the gallon :(
 
wow i am having the EXACT same problem....how can i do a boost leak??? and actually, somehow my 02 sensor and like 5 vac hoses on my car were disconnected. it idled at like 2000rpm and got 170 miles to a full tank. but if fixed the vac leak and plugged the sensor back in. i guess i have a boost leak???? would love to know how to find out where it is coming from!!! ### help me and this guy out!

Yes that is correct, there is unburn gasoline due to the unmetered air and thats why your engine doesn't run that great when boost hits.

LOL....i looked for 30 minutes on that websight....and can't find it. a direct link would be extreamly appreciated!(although i did learn alot of little things while getting sidetracked while surfing that site)
 
I have the same problem!!! I just got the car and fixed some stuff, and now i noticed a tremendous power loss, and i checked everything but a proper boost leak test. I remember before i would take off even in first gear, and i could feel the car just pull me, and now its just taking a while to get to boost, and it makes me want to shift around 4 rpms because thats where the 14b is max at 10 psi on my car, and if i keep holding it, it seems as if i dont even HAVE A TURBO AT ALL!!! I checked my bov, and got a new one, it didnt help, i checked my recirc hose and didnt help, i have no idea where its coming from. I pulled the boost line from the bov and i blew in it and the air didnt have a problem going through. if thats bad or not, i have no ideas, but maybe it has something to do with vacuum hoses???
