a 1g laser so my car has 69000 miles and i was going to the store with 10 pounds of boost and i stepped on it and a big puff of black smoke came out from the exhaust and now the car will not boost but makes neg vaccum pressure goes from -7 to 0 does this mean i blew the turbo up? it felt just like fuel cut but i have a walbro 255lph and 510 injectors. checked all vaccum lines and no leaks please help with my thanksgiving day nightmare. thanks guys!!! :barf:
 
Check to make sure you didn't blow a IC coupler off. Visual examination may reveal something but a boost leak test is the only way to be sure.

Also, pull your intake pipe and spin the compressor to make sure it spins freely. Check for shaft play. If any doubts check your IC pipes for the presence of oil.
 
Take the intake pipe off and check it for shaft play.

If all holds together do a boost leak test.

ok so i checked to see if one of the hoses might of come off but no. but i dont have the pvc pipe thing(you put a cap on a pvc pipe and drill a hole in the cap andpull a valve stem through it right thing?) to do a pressure test. i can make one tomorrow. i checked for shaft play and no side to side but like an 1/16th or so in and out maybe slightly more. i just went outside to check to se if the wheel would spin if i had the car running and when i hit the throttle it did spin obviously i tried it by hand also when i checked for shaft playi will let you know tomorrow how the pressure test goes. exactly how do i do a boost leak test, i know to put air in it, where is the best spot to put the pvc cap?
 
i did the boost test no leaks in the intake so then i did a test directly to the turbo and this is what i got , i had my friend sit in the car and i hooked up the air compressor and my autometer boost gauge said 11 pds and held there until i stopped putting air in then i heard a hissing sound that seemed to come from the exhuast manifold. so i did it again and out my hand in between the top of the turbo and the bottom of the manifold and it kinda deadend the hissing. cracked turbo housing? no major shaft play. goin crazy cant figure it out. now i spun the turbo spins free, took intake off and the turbo spins when i rev it but doesnt make noise doesnt look like it spins vry fast

ok so what do we think? and if i have to change the turbo, i need only 2 gaskets? manifold to turbo and o2 housing gasket and thats it? thanks for everyones info!!
 
someone please help dont have the money to take to a shop please tell me somethng either im screwed or just something simple

I have never heard of a turbine housing suddenly cracking open (although I suppose it's possible). Even if that did happen I doubt that pressurizing your intake would cause the air to just blow out of the hot side like you are describing. Also, if that were the case you would have a very noticeable exhaust leak which you would most likely be able to detect at idle both by the sound and the presence of black soot around the area.

Repeat the leak test but this time spray soapy water over all areas of the intake and/or the area in question and look for the bubbles. You need to find the EXACT location of the leak before we can give you advice on how to fix it.
 
so i did the test again but now i when i looked i have oil all over the place the top of the trans towards the front and more towards the turbo. i sprayed soapy water the first time but failed to tell you guys i did and i cant seem to see anything bubbling anywhere. so i tried soapy water again and the smallest leak by an injector. so i fixed that with a different injector. the cracked housing was just a guess. i guess im just gonna get the turbo changed i have had a 16g sitting on my kitchen table for like a month but was just trying to save money and buy a fm also but no waiting now. then i guess i can go from there. i really dont know what to do
 
so i did blow the turbo and when i say blew it i mean the whole exhaust turbine was melted off totally.the cast iron housing part was chipped and to me looked like it was totally overheated and started to melt. so now what would cause it to run so hot? running the car to lean, running tomuch boost at one point and time :sosad:
 
yeah i talked to a coupleof people in my area and they said the same thing but if i could get pics up you gotta see it. its crazy, and the little flapper valve that lets the wastegate exhuast out all around the the flapper is all cracked and white as hell which in return means to me i heated the crap out of it like super cherry red (i never seen it red or glowing red on my car). so crazy
