In the past couple weeks I've replaced My BISS seal, TB shaft seals and upper and lower injector O-rings. I was leaking at all of these (minus the upper o-rings of course). Reseating the injectors eliminated my leak at all but one (second closest to passenger side). I replaced the o-rings and that one is still leaking. I also can hear a leak coming from what sounds like the turbo. It does not appear to be from my boost leak tester. What could be causing these leaks?

When I pressurize it drops from 20 to 10 psi in about 10 seconds. Then to 5 in another 10 seconds and takes another good 30 seconds to hit 0.

I can still feel problems when I'm driving. 1st and 2nd feel pretty smooth (not perfect though), but drop from 10 psi to 7 starting around 4,000-4,500 rpm. In 3rd it holds until 4,500-5,000 and drops to 9. It seems to stutter more and accelerate more slowly, though it felt like it cleared up when it dropped a psi. I haven't been able to go to redline in 4th or 5th. Does this sound entirely boost related or do I have another issue. Fuel?

Another unrelated question: Any feedback on belt replacement? I should replace them all, but the timing belt is relatively new, but it appears that the others are factory (at 120,000 miles!). Is it much easier to do the others? One looks particularly shitty and has started squealing. Will consult VFAQ, but thought I'd ask as long as I've got a thread going.

Thanks!

1.) about the boost leak...if the sound 'sounds' like it is comming from the turbo, have you looked at the seals around the manifold/turbine housing itself?? or could it be a loose pipe on the intake track or recirc. lines???

2.) about the belts...i would replace the alternator belt, and if the timing belt looks anything like it shouldnt when it is brand new....replace that too. DSM's love to skip timing and chipped/shredded belts are more of a hassle deliverer....so ya...anything that you see fit when changing things you should probably do.
good luck man.

I pulled off the heat shield and sprayed down everything I could see. I haven't had the lower shield off so i can't see everything, but it looked allright. It also looks like the seal manifold/block seal is new, though the metal sticks out some distance, like it was cut wrong or something. Is this normal?

I've never had a turbo apart before. I'm not sure what seals could be leaking. I did not hear any leaking from the exhaust. I should mention that I heard a bit in the head though.

I'm really annoyed by this and would like to figure it out. I refuse to start modding until my car is running tip top.

The timing belt looks brand new, but I don't like to rely on that. It is Napa brand so it has been replaced at some point. The rest are Mitsubishi. and look ancient. If I don't do them all now I will get to the timing belt in the spring when i can ride my motorcycle if it has to be down for a couple days. Unfortunately it's my only car right now and I'm between jobs. :( So i take it the timing belt doesn't have to come off to do the others? If it's just as difficult to do one as to do the timing belt with it I might as well do both. I think I have a T-belt for it around...

I should also mention that I checked my turbo about 2000 miles ago and it had no noticeable shaft play in any direction. It doesn't say anything about seals, but indicates everything *should* be in good working order. I hope....

no..you dont need to remove the t-belt to get at any other belts/hoses. the belt is connected to the crank and times the motor so its funtion is independant from everything else. and from your desctription of the turbo sounds adequeate and the turbine should not have any shaft play.
just take your time with everything and it will turn out fine!! :thumb:

Sounds a little like you might need new plugs and/or wires. Have you replaced them lately, and, if so, are the plugs gapped properly?

Yes, as soon as I got the car (a couple months ago) I did new plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, etc...) I started with Bosch platinums and quickly swapped out to NGK's. Oldman thought I might be leaking from the compressor cover seal. I've searched and am having a tough time coming up with anything.

Good to know about the belts. I'll just swap the bad ones for now and do the timing belt and balance shaft block off in the spring.

*edit* and yes, the plus are gapped properly. All of them between .28 and .30.
