why does my boost gauge stay at 0 psi while the car is turned off? Usually the needle would drop all the way to the bottom of the vacuum reading when the car turned off, but starting 2-3 weeks ago it stays in the "9 o'clock" 0 psi position. Everything works fine when the car is on, so i'm not too concerned, just curious.
Happy Tuning...

If the car is off it should be at 0psi, no vac and no pressure. If it's a Prosport Electronic style gauge that uses a sender it may use a stepping motor to turn the needle, I had one of these and sometimes it would go always to the left (vac) when off and sometimes it would just stop where it was at.

Sorry for not specifying: Yes, it's an aftermarket SPI boost gauge. And if you look at it like a clock: 6 oclock is 30 vac, 9oclock is zero psi, and 3 oclock is 30 psi. All i'm saying is that for the past year when the car was turned totally off the needle would drop to the 6 oclock position. But now it remains at the 9 oclock position when the car off. I thought i'd say somthing in the one in a million chance this means something bad with the gauge or line.

for the last year you've had a broken gauge! It should rest at 0 no boost no vac i would get a new gauge. wouldn't risk inaccurate reading, if its been reading 30vac for the last year with the car off its probably broken just my 2cents though

hey volkerding, i had something similar happen to my autometer boost gauge. When idling it would only read 10psi of vacuum. If i tapped the gauge, the needle would bounce a little bit and go a bit higher. I took the gauge out and found that one of the brass rods that are in teh back of the gauge fell into itself and was touching one of the terminals. i pulled it out and now everything works great.
