Boost Creep Issues, need help plz...

Alright, so I have a '91 AWD TSi and Im running the EVO III 16g turbo. I have a 2.5 exhaust that was put on by the guy who owned it before me, and its all bent and I really dont like it... either way, stock downpipe, stock fuel management, the AFC was hooked up wrong when I got it so I just disconnected it.

THe tranny went out right after I bought it, and I just had it rebuilt and I put it back in.

My problem is, I creep at around 8-10lbs and it takes some considerable time in any gear to get past it, if even at all. Second and possibly third are really the only gears I actually get past the creep.

I have a 255 walbro and a 2g mas that I havent put in yet, Im trying to get other issues worked out first.

Im new to DSMs... and have heard all kinds of different things from my friends, who are fellow DSM owners. One told me that I should run an external wastegate because my wastegate cant keep up with me exhaust? I durno, also, that the EVO III 16g's are meant to be run at higher boost levels, like atleast 20lbs....

Just trying to figure out a clear cut answer here so I can aleviate this problem. thanks

I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say you creep at 8-10 psi. you might want to elaborate a little more on what you're talking about.

search the topic on the forums. EVO III and boost creep seem to come up a lot and you'll get the answer.

Abbreviated version: port your turbo, port your wastegate opening, port your o2 housing and re-evaluate.

Okay, sorry for not elaborating.....

I dont know what the wastegate flap opens at... I've heard at 11psi.... but my boost stops anywhere from 8-10lbs.... and like I said before, if I lay on second gear for a good couple seconds at full throttle, then it will continue its climb past that... but always at 8-10lbs... its like it gets stuck....

Sounds to me like you need to get a boost controller.

I have also read that the spring in the 16G wastegate's are set to 11lbs. (Although I just put on an EVOIII and no boost controller and I am hitting 14lbs).

Well..... I have a manual boost controller installed. I guess I might need to check the hoses and such. The guy that I bought it from had made his own MBC.... if that is acting up, could it create a problem such as this?

Sorry I'm unsure about that, I've never even installed a boost controller.

You could d/c the vac. line going to the nipple on the wastegate and cap it off (in order to run "infinite" boost) in theory this would only test that you are able to make more boost. I would be very careful on the throttle while doing this tho.

You could also take your MBC apart and check the spring/ball bearing in it to make sure they are the proper length/size (meaning the ball bearing is not flattened or anything)
