OK there is a lot of talk that its a wast of cash on a safc . Because a naturally aspirated 420a runs on vac ,that once it sees boost a safc is useless . Now volts are also a issue . I also noticed a lot of ( some say it works some say it doesn't safc) . would the link above actually fix the problem . Or am i just stirring up another argument.

It's really a hack way of doing it, and it doesn't work very well. Corbin abandoned the notion pretty quickly.

If the SAFC will make you more cool, then install it anyway as per usual instructions and use it to adjust fuel sans-boost.

the only reason that i bring this discussion to the form is that i am now using a sfmu with a jaw wide ban and i cant seem to get the air fuel right so instead of buying a megasquirt and making a new harness i can pick up a safc for cheep 100 bucks . Yet if its only going to make tunning more a pain in the butt i will not bother.

i see we're having the same damn fuel problems.. and i was thinking about getting a megasquirt to but the price is kinda of making me cringe... and i was looking at safc some ppl are saying it works and some are saying its useless.. we're in the same boat my friend

yea we are in the same boat hence y i started this topic . the only bad thing is it seems like no one has a straight answer. the link above that i posted addresses the so called volt problem with the safc . Yet no one seems to want to come forward and tell it this actually is proven way to tune. i guess we will have to wait and see in the mean time i have ordered the sensor that is discussed in the link. and am going to pick up the safc, so i will have a answer in about 2 weeks , till then all i really want is to see if anyone on the board has already done so.

Would the missing link solve the problem of the MAP seeing boost and making it useless? To be honest I haven't messed with either a Missing link sfmu or safc on a 420a so I'm just throwing ideas out there on this one.

Missing links are hit or miss, mostly miss.

Yeah they look like a gamble but in theory it would keep the MAP from seeing boost. I agree that MSnS is a alot to get running but trust me it's worth teh investment. A rock solid tuning/datalogging setup is worth 10x's whatever you pay when something goes wrong or your tuning.

i agree a MSnS is the best way to go yet will the safc+sfmu prove just as effective or can it be used (with the right knowledge) to tune a 420a turbo. now take in to account that the 420a is now running bigger injectors and fuel pump plus hitting over 10psi of boost, thats the question.

A bit of topic but does an S-AFC is acting correctly on a N/A 420A like mine...I've got many head mods...camshaft, cam gears, valves, springs retainers, port and polish head ans intake etc....(all crane Cams) And can,t seem to have te rioght afr at some rpm...would the s-afc help me??

The SAFC does work as advertised while NA.

Yes, an SAFC will help you, with the bigger cams in particular.

Yup, used it on mine for a little bit. Didn't gain much power (3whp) but it did smooth out a couple of spots on the curve and it also gave me some great gas mileage. Now if I had to buy it would I use it? Probably not. But I already had it kicking around from my 94 awd.

Of course gas was cheaper back then........

Why wouldn't you put in a 2 bar map sensor? Compensate with bigger injectors and the AFC. Over in turbo dodge land, 40% bigger injectors plus an extra bar above factory (going from 2 bar to 3 bar) gives you a car you can drive. The tune isn't very good, but you can drive around like that no problem.

I Have and FPR too but still need more fuel...even if I crank the flo two times...maybe a Walbro 255lph hi flo would help too??
Hmm, I was running a 190 wally (and still am) just for safety's sake. I am still running the stock fpr, with no reason to change. I ran stock injectors up to 176whp. At that point I hit a max of 87% duty cycle so I upgraded to 450's to go over 200whp.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm skeptical that you are running out of fuel. I'm thinking it may be something else. Is the fpr set-up correct? Maybe the stocker fuel pump is tired. Getting a wally won't hurt you.

Just a couple of my pennies.

ive also heard safc arent the best option for going over 490cc injectors. Do you plan on going more boost?
