OK i took my car into the local dealer here for the t-case recall and they had my car for about 3 weeks. I ended up getting a brand new t-case, but low and behold after three weeks of driving it the darn thing locked up on me while i was driving down the road at about 15-20mph. come to find out the guy that worked on my car did not put the fill plug back in and there was no oil in it. then i found out the guy was fired the day before my car broke. So my questions are.....

1. what other things do i need them to look at for damage caused by the t-case locking up?
2. where is the vicious coupler located? they are trying to tell me that it is inside the T-case and I'm almost 100% sure its not.
3. could my rear-end be messed up at all?

thats about all i have questions about. But if there is anything i should have the dealer ship look at that may have been caused by their mess up please let me know!

Thanks Guys!!

wow..
uhm, yeah. Go back to the dealer and tell them its their problem. If they hassle you remind them they sent you out on the road with a worse problem than you came in with and that your lawyer won't be very impressed the dealership is not only that negligent but you could have easily been injured or worse.
Thats my 2 cents..

oh yeah i made them send me a flat bed and told them they had to fix it. so it should be done today but im sure they wont look into it any farther than they have to which is why i was wondering what i need to look out for when i get it back.

ya they should have warrenty on their parts and labor. I work at a Ford dealership and we have a 12,000 mile, or 12 month warrenty on our parts and service. It is their problem, especially if you had your car there for 3 weeks and the problem that it was in for just happened again. If they dont correct it sue them you will win.

My experience was similar, but the dealership I went to wouldn't even tow it back their place to look at it -I had to call AAA to tow it back (it locked up again about 1 mile away from the dealership while I was driving it home!). Good luck, man.

...and the VC is in the transmission, not the transfer case.

yeah good call.
maybe someone with more experience can chime in with what else could have been affected from this mishap?

A locking transfer case will cause a significant jolt to all the parts in the drive train. Unless you are using a very sticky or stiff clutch the engine should be fine.

In particular you need to look at the VC for camming (warping), the output shaft to the T-case for spline wear/shear, the half shafts for breakage, tires for flat spots, etc etc etc.

Think of what happened as very similar to you dumping the clutch at high RPMs. Any thing that can be damaged by that can be damaged by what happened to you. Then add the problems you can get when the car is towed with the rear wheels on the ground. In the end you did a combination of these 2 things.

it still have a stock type clutch so i should be fine there. now the tires i was worried about but i was only doing around 15mph when the tires locked up. so im not sure how much of a stress that would be as apposed to say like a 70mph lockup. yeah im pretty pissed but i was actually on my way to chicago from north dakota and i was supposed to be moving there last sat. and im just ready to get it back and see if i cant take it to a dealer back home and have them send the bill to the dealer up here. i dont know. i really dont wanna hang out here anymore thats for sure.

I was doing about 25mph when mine locked up. It was about 6000 miles after I had my tranny rebuilt, so I was definitely scared about that. I've taken the tranny apart since and found absolutely no signs of damage (to my untrained eye, but still -all gears looked perfect). Everything else seems to be fine too -it's made it through a few autocrosses already this season...

And I almost cried when they drug it onto the flatbed -rear wheels not moving... I was sure the rear would be toast. Maybe it was having the 4 bolt that saved me, I don't know. I consider myself lucky at the end of it. 2 minutes before lockup I was doing 80 on the expressway. Luckily I heard some weird noises and decided to pull off at the next exit. In the end, no major damage, just some downtime and the frustration of dealing with the worst dealership I've ever dealt with.

that is like the identical thing that happened to me. Like to a tee. i almost cried when they drug it to the flat bed. thought the rear end was just gonna roll backwards out of the car. and i am also dealing with a very incompetent dealer. have heard nothing but bad things and they are the only ones in town that do the recall i mean they honestly filled my friends talon with diesel after the 2g fuel tank recall and tried blaming it on him that he is the one that did it. and they tried telling me that it was my tranny that locked up even though i could move it into all gears when running. they said that if it was the t-case all 4 tires would have locked up and they didn't and it was the t-case. i was so mad when they put it on the lift and like 2sec's is all it took me to see that there was no fill plug in it while they were looking at the rearend!! bunch of retards......OK sorry i just had to vent a bit. but thanks for all the help if anyone else can thing of anything else let me know
