Real short real simple how do i go about removing my leftside rear quater panel i have a giant dent and just want to replace the side thank for the help :dsm:

Well i have not actually ever done it but i was hit recently in that same spot and i took it to the shop. They told me that thing was one of the hardest things they have done because that panel is welded to the whole frame of the car. They had to remove my rear panel window and they said more than likely the tint will be scratched off and the window will experiene damage. But thank god it was from an accident and had full coverage. I just wanted to clarify that it is not simply "simple" :D

Yea our car is a uni-body setup. The rear quarter panels are apart of the frame. If you have dents they can be pulled out.

It would be easier and quicker to remove the dent than cut out your entire quarter and weld in a new one, please bring it to someone that knows what they are doing and don't just bondo the hell out of it and spray paint that spot ...PLEASE!

i had a huge dent (s) in my passenger side quarter panel and thought i would have to replace it but i took it to the body shop and they said no dont replace it, that can be pulled even though it was smashed beyond belief, and when the body guy was done straightening it he said that was the easiest one he has ever done.

well this weekend was hell! i went to the local wally world(wallmart) to pick some stuff up and when i came out their was a huge dent in the side of my car. i was madder then hell! anyways the insurance company is giving me money (obviously) but i was "thinking" i would do it myself. the damage is in the back quater pannel right under the wing. has anyone ever taken one of these off? their are alot of junk yards around here with tons of non turbo dsm's in them. im really tempted to do it myself so i can buy some more parts for it :thumb:

thanks tuners
:dsm: eclipse :talon: talon :laser: laser

Yeah Go for it!

I found some good stuff for my 94 talon at a junk yard. The one i went to had 2 lasers, 2 eclipses and one talon first gens. So finding stuff shouldn't be hard.

what i was really wanted to know was if anyone has ever removed one of these back panels before. i looked all in my service manual and i cant seem to find how to remove the damn thing

thanks again
David

You should find a good u-pick-it junkyard around you. I go to mine to 'practice' on things I've never done before. You can try to take off one of the rear panels there first...if you break it, oh well...you'll know how to do it better next time when its actually your car.

That's probably because it's what you call the frame.
Other than the fenders, doors, hatch and trim, DSMs from the inner front fender panels to the taillights are made into one piece. The rear quarter is usually repaired instead of replaced. Or, even more commonly as the years proceed, totalled.

dog just pull out the plastic and get a rubber mallet and a towel if the dent did not damage the paint it should just pop out, the quarter panel is really strong so if it doesnt pop out easily just have a professional do it rather than fuhk it up more ! there is little buttons that need to be popped out before removing the plastic, usually they tend to break so be careful if they do brake then just buy more from a dealer or junkyard also i beleive there is screws as well.

its a pretty big dent i dont think the HANDY ruber mallet is going to work LOL. i would say its about the size of a football. the dent is also behind part of the wrap around wing.

id suggest taking it to a body shop.

also obviously people don't understand the amount of work that goes into replacing a rear quarter panel. it requires the removal of the rear 1/4 panel, then cut out another one to fit in the same spot, followed by alot of trimming to make it fit, and TONS of welding. not something the average person can do in their garage over the weekend. body shops charge alot for this type of repair, and there is a reason for that.

my new rims for my talon were sitting in my garage....I heard a boom!!! and  :notgood: my rims fell on my sisters gsx...aww crap man. How much did you pay to get the dent out. I might just buy her some parts for her car. :nono: :talon:

All that hold your rear quarter to your subframe is 64 spot welds, have fun finding them, No but honestly On a unibody car such as yours, The quarter panels provide structural support to the subframe assembly keeping it rigid. In recent years i have noticed in my shop insurance companies telling us to total cars that have substantial quarter and rear damage that could be fixed. This is because for example to section a quarter on your car pays 34 hours multiply that times 119$ my flatrate pay plus the cost of the quarter panel itself, pulling your frame and using a laser rack to check and re check and re spray the quarter and rear bumper and blend the roof and b pillars and rear hatch you have spent more then the car is worth. you can do it yourself if you have an I car certification, you can do it if you don't will you screw it up, YES, will your shitty work put the strength of you sub frame in jepordy,YES,in other words get it fixed i have fixed quarters that look like they have been beaten for half an hour with a 20 lb sledge. but if you think you can section that quarter and do it right :thumb: go for it.
