blue smoke. Any ideas?

Lately, Ive noticed my car spits out a puff of blue smoke (oil) followed by black (fuel) when I rev it up in neutral. It usually happens when I rev it past 5000 rpms and thats the only time. It wont do it while I'm driving or at idle. I've done a compression test and the results were 161, 165, 167, and 169 across the board. I've also checked my turbo for excessive shaft-play and only found a little side to side play NOT in and out. I pulled my lower intercooler pipe and found very little to no oil residue. After that, I took off my PVC valve and found that it needs replaced. I could blow through both ends. Could this be the cause of the puff of blue smoke somehow? The only thing I haven't done is a leakdown to check if the problem is caused by a bad valve seal. But, I was under the impression it wouldn't be necessary given that my compression numbers are way above the service limit and they are not more than 15 psi apart. Can someone give me some input? Thanx.

Your compression numbers are actually pretty good. If it doesn't blow under boost, load, idle or deceleration, I wouldn't worry too much. The shaft play in your turbo is something to keep an eye on, but shouldn't be a concern right now. To answer your question, a bad PCV can eat some oil so try replacing that first with an OEM unit since the aftermarket PCV's leak horribly when new. I usually have a couple of spares in my toolbox and check them at every oil change to make sure they're still sealing tight.

Try that and if that doesn't cure it, we'll look at other options. Good job diagnosing and giving us good info to work with by the way. It makes our jobs easier when we have all the facts.

Vented Bov, would also cause blue smoke(or smoke in general). I wanted to see what the real differance was for myself with it not re-routed, and I could see the smoke everytime I shift. If you are there ya go.

How would a vented BOV cause blue smoke? I can see black smoke from running rich after dumping the metered air in a shift, but where would the oil come from?

sorry for missleading you, thats why I noted "(or smoke in general)" but yes its blackish greyish smoke.
