Hey guys i seem to have a problem with the car smoking at idle. I just need conformation on what i think it is. Today i made a pull at 20psi on my 50trim. Right after that i started to see smoke and lots of it. Had a blueish tint to it and it smelled like oil. Am thinking the oil seal on the turbine side blew. My built 6bolt has no balance shafts so i always see high oil pressure(30psi at idle when warmed, as high as 110 at Wot) but i have a restrictor on the feed line which goes to the oil filter housing. I checked the inlet of the turbo for any signs of oil or shaft play and it only had a little and when i spinned it kinda felt like the turbine wheel was scraping the housing however the car was pretty hot so i couldn't make sure. The 50trim was put on since June and was never run past 20psi. Also another thing i noticed was that when the turbo spooled it sounded alot like a whine, kinda like the sound th3 255 walbro. I don't believe its a head gasket problem but i will test the compression tommorow. Am pretty much dead set on that its the turbo i just need others opinions. Also heres a video of the smoking at idle for you guys to see.

Sounds like a blown turbo seal to me. My car didn't smoke after boost, but it did smoke heavily at idle.

Let the car cool off, and check for shaft play, you will probably see quite a bit.

Verdict is in on the turbo....

I've got your finger prints now! J'k that sucks. At least you know for sure what the problem is, and you can start working to fix it. :thumb:

HAHA those aren't my fingerprints. Yeah compression test came out at 180 across the board so i was happy that it wasn't the HG. However now I am stuck with a $700 paper weight.

Not nessacerily. Be optimistic. You can pickup a new shaft/turbine wheel assembly, rebuild the turbo and then have it rebalanced. It would be cheaper than buying a new one.

That may be true and your right. Just so you know this was the TO4B Bullseye 50trim less than 4,000 miles and 3 and a half months old. I however will take the chance and get one of the new dual ball bearing turbos that are out and get the chance to get a 60trim or go with the gt3071r and try that because i need more :D
