okay im writing this because i want a strait up answer from all the more experienced guys here. i am about to change these gaskets for the 4th time and its driving me crazy. i dont wana have to do it again afterwards.

im talking about the manifold-to-head gasket and the turbo-to-manifold gaskets btw

i beleive my last turbo-to-manifold gasket's problem that it was too small. i got the 5.5cm from thedsmgraveyard.com i didnt realize it was 5.5cm

i am now going to try the 7cm 2 ply gasket shown below.

As for the manifold-to-head gasket, it held up fine this time. but that doesnt mean it wouldnt have gone out soon like the last couple times. but im going to try out this one.

the turbo inlet was machined recently because it was warped. but it still blew this time. im thinking it should be okay this time since its the right size, but i want to be sure before i order it. plus i read that some copper spray or something was suggested for these gaskets. should i get that as well? what else should i try to ensure it doesnt blow again?

also, i have a greddy type-s blow of valve with a stock intake system ( box to turbo ) only upgrade for the intake is a filter. i cant find any information about how to recirculate this situation. i cant find any kits for this either. im very new to the recirculate thing and ive read everywhere and maybe im just missing it, but i cant figure it out.

where can i get a kit and how do i recirculate it?

oh yeah, when you get the little filter for the valve cover in order to replace the tube that runs from your intake. whats the best way to cap that on the intake?

thanks- you guys are life savers for noobs like me :)

how exactly are you "blowing" exhaust gaskets? i've seen them burnt up before, but the only gasket i've heard that "blows" is the head gasket?

and recirculating? if your intake system is still stock then your bov should have a short hose that goes to the intake. if that's not what you're talking about then you need to take a picture of what you're wanting to "recirculate" ?

ill attach a picture soon. dont have my camera on me. and the gaskets just i guess go out after a while and leak. i dont know exactly what happens. ill pull it out once it leaks and chunks of it will be missing. i mean this previous time has to be because of the wrong size i guess. right?

i 'spose so. i've never had that happen to me LOL. i just replaced the manifold gasket on the hubby's GST because that sucker was burnt to hell and split. but i believe it has also been on there, possible, the life of the car. so we're talkin 145,000 miles here. and i can see how maybe they would get brittle after soooooo long just from being exposed to such extreme temperatures all the time. but i guess the one for you where your turbo mates to the manifold, i could see if maybe it was too small then all the hot exhaust gasses are just slamming into it, it could break off and end up in your turbo :\

well i didnt have the tools to do it so i had it done for me. so im kinna pissed to see that i had gotten the wrong size, and he didnt even think twice to ask me if it was the right one. the hole being 1.5 cm difference you would think would ring a bell. but thanks. we will see if these work out. and as soon as i get my camera ill post a pic of my bov and intake. it could be recirculated. i have no idea. im completely new to the recirculation thing. i couldnt even find pics on it done. and if i did i didnt know what i was lookin at. tehe ^ ^

Are you properly torquing the nuts and bolts?
Exhaust manifold to turbocharger bolts (and nut if you still have the stud) - 27-31 Nm + a 60-70 degree turn or 20-23 ft.lbs. + a 60-70 degree turn
Exhaust manifold to head nuts - 49 Nm or 36 ft.lbs.
Engine hanger nuts - 29 Nm or 22 ft.lbs.

On the recirculation, here's a tech article that shows a Type-S being installed and recirculated. The pics are at the bottom of the post; figure 14 shows the BOV installed with the recirculation tube: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-intake-exhaust/131232-how-install-injen-intake-greddy-type-s-bov.html

If you are uncertain what the "recirculation" tube is, use this for a great visual: http://members.shaw.ca/dsm.1000q/Engineprimer/2G/visual-index.htm

For the little filter on the valve cover, many people use a little rubber hose and clamp one end to the nipple and the other to the filter. If you would like to do it the best way and understand why it is done, you can read here on how to create a catch-can system: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/366890-4g63t-pcv-system.html#post152294004
