hi everyone i'm new to the forums i just resently just got my first car and its a 1999 GS-T i was wondering what type of blow off valve should i get that is street legal i really want to upgrade because the stock one sucks ! i can only hear it when its really quiet in my car :( so i want to be able to hear it & also other people too a friend of mine told me that some are illegal to have and some are not so i was wondering could anyone help me out and give me some info what to buy ? thanks :)

Get a name brand one. IE - HKS (some people had issues with them), Greddy, Tial (Re-circulated ones).

Also, re-circulate it, or you'll have issues between shifts.

do some research on the topic and understand what you should be looking for when your buying an aftermarket BOV

performance wise and to make your car run right you will need to recirculate it -- a lot of guys decide to not recirculate it and the car runs like CRAP if you dont tune it -- i imagin your not going to tune it seeing as your just looking for the cool sound

recirculate means that the air tube hooked up to your BOV ( the one that is attached to your intake and your BOV ) right now still needs to be attached once you install your aftermarket BOV

you can spend a lot of money on louder sounding BOV s -- again do some research and use the search button on the forum --

i have a 95 gsx and i upgraded to a 1st generation BOV, doesnt sound any better or louder but they are known for holding pressure your turbo builds up, better then the stock 2nd generation BOV that came with our cars --

hope this helps and enjoy your gst

1g bov for the price. I personally don't like loud bovs. but in your case. you want something loud i'd get the HKS ssqv or the blitz both with recirc adapter of course. Remember not to vent your bov without the right equipment....

honestly with video to back it up, i can prove through my wideband that a non recirculated hks ssq and a stock 1g act the exact same between shifts. BUT the hks ssq is the only one i'd reccommend if going non recirc... my turbosmart really messes with the cars idle after shifts, but the hks seemed to have no adverse side effects....

HKS SSQV LEAK! Get a greddy, Tial, or modded 1gBOV. Don't bother with the hks its junk. Also when your running >21psi they can't relieve pressure fast enough. You need to do a search on the subaru NASIOC boards, they are notorious for leak and they have a ton of test threads on that forum.

+1 on the hks ssqv! im not recirclating and bought mine a year n a half ago been happy since. Just a heads up, be carfull when you (which you will) get a fmic an all the piping alot of them have only flanges for the greddy bov, but vms performance sells a adapter for a couple buck n you'll be good!

Well I would like to get my car tune but not right now also to let everyone know I have a automatic GST and also I not going just for the cool sound I'm doing it for performance also.so I can get a aftermarket BOV ? As long as I get recuirculate back to the tube ?

just get an intake without an airbox. don't get a non recirculated BOV

I'm sure a plethora of sellers on this site have 1 for sale.

Although if you cant find one STM offers them new for $100 shipped.

Ok thank you I have a question about the bov is loud enough to hear it ? If it is that would make me happy with the 1g bov oh also what about the 2g bov a person told me I could get one of those also is that ok ?

The 2g bov (what you probably have now) is made of plastic and leaks horribly, unless of course you're lucky and it doesn't leak.

if your BOV is stock in your car then it is the plastic 2g BOV -- like the guy said above they all leak horribly unless your really lucky, and getting another 2g BOV will not make any sound difference -- if you get a 1g BOV your not gonna notice a large sound difference either

if you want the sound your gonna have to pay for it -- Greedy, Blitz, HKS

if you get the 1g it will hold better pressure then your 2g BOV for a fraction of the price of the aftermarket i listed above

oh and if you get a 1g your gonna need a flang as well so make sure you get that adaptor if you go this route

good luck and enjoy

X2 if you want it loud don't vent it back, to hold some real boost search on the correct way to crush it. That's the way I run my stock bov of course I'm tuned with AEM EMS and crushed my stock bov has seen 30+ psi. and I didn't have to spend $200-$300 for a bov.

Sorry, sometimes I forgot not everyone has a 1st gen... since your 2g you would need to find a 1st gen bov, luckly for you there cheap, and can be found for sale for a under $30 usually.

Until you get up to a tial 50mm, I haven't found a bov I like better than the 1g. Trouble free, no adjusting, and with a few little mods will hold whatever you throw at it. There are serious flaws with all the other designs that just bug the crap out of me. It doesn't mean they don't work, but... The SSQV is a good example. Would it kill them to make it mount with a V-band or a standard flange? That snap ring is awful.

A vented 1g makes a wonderful sound as well.

Automatic GST? I'm not even sure when you will hear it vent since shifts in the auto will not drop throttle. Maybe when you slow down.

ok ok ok.... before you do anything, when looking for your new BOV (not saying the 1g isnt king, CAUSE I LOVE IT!) but there is a newer type of BOV that both atmospherically dumps and recirculates, its called (correct me if im wrong) but a dual port BOV. heres the local link Dual Horn BOV

from what i hear, you get the best of both worlds albeit you wont achieve perfect recirc and you wont get that extra loud Blow off you would with a dedicated recirc or atmos dump.

good luck!

no it doesn't leak at all and are you sure that i already have the 2g bov ? witch is the stock one that comes on a 1999 GS-T eclipse ? dose anyone know ?

well i can hear it when i speed up or let off the gas but it has to be completely quiet in my car with out the radio on

so the 1st gen is better then the sec gen ?

If you are sure that your GS-T is completely stock then yes you have a plastic 2g bov. It will look like the one in this picture(ignore the red circles)

Yes it is. I can push my old 2g one open with very little force :barf:

Yes the metal 1st gen bov is far superior to the plastic 2nd gen bov. Those plastic bov are prone to leakage, and dont like high levels of boost. Like mentioned above the 1st gen bov can handle 18psi in some cases 20psi and above before having to be crushed. Mine is crushed and I run 25psi on it daily, the previous owner ran race gas in the car the times he went to the track and pushed over 30psi and the bov handled it like a champ.
