black stuff(not smoke) out of exhaust

So I decided for one reason or another to put a piece of paper about an inch or so away from my muffler. What the result was a slightly black, kind of water based stuff coming out. Is this carbon? I think it would be since I'm running a 3" Apexi N1 turboback(no cat). Any help would be nice.

It most likely is carbon, black stuff that when it hardens onto the paper that kinda will flake off if you pick at it?

Well it looks like a black crayone that has water splashed on it i guess. What exactly do you want me to describe? If it is carbom..what is the fix? or do i not need to worry? Is my not having a cat and having such a large exhaust the cause or could it be something else?

did you do this early in the morning...early enough to have condensation mixed with carbon gunk coming out

Nope. Just around 3 or 4 pm.

DO NOT WORRY!! It is just carbon as you stated. Carbon and water are normal biproducts of combustion of gasoline. When the engine or exhaust system are cold it will come out as water dropplets, but when the engine warms up the water is evaporated and you will not see it.

Like motoman said when it comes out as a liquid it can wash away at the hard buildup inside the exhaust pipes and just come out with flakey stuff in it.

Also doesn't matter what time of day you checked, has mainly to do with the tempature conditions of the time you checked.

temperatures are generally cooler in the morning hence reason for my asking what time of day...
