Hi guys, i couldn't post in the actual audio section but I really need help with this issue. It's been driving me absolutely nuts. One day I my battery died and my friend hooked up Pos to Neg and Neg to Pos. Long and short is that radio stopped working. I got unlock code but still NO audio. I replaced the head unit and got audio on fr, fl, rr, but not rl or tweeters. since then fl has stopped working too. At the time of the battery mishap, all equipment was stock but I now have db okur speakers and a dual xhdr receiver. when I turn on radio and balance all the way to the left, I can hear audio very faintly from front left and rear left. When I remove the amp, it's even more quiet. Right now the DUAL HU is hooked up with a harness I got online and I checked the wiring on it twice. It should be noted that the speakers on the right work perfectly and always have, however.... sometimes if I turn the audio up too high and the song goes into a really noisy part, the speakers shut off as if it required too much power and went into protect mode or something and I have to pull up and down on the window controls before they kick back on. Please help me, i'm losing my mind....

Sounds like you've got yourself a short. You're best bet is to just run new wires to the speaker. To test if its the car wiring, just grab some audio wiring, pop the door apart and run the wires from the speaker to the head unit. Its how I tested mine when I got it. If that's the case, you'll just have to run your own wiring to the speaker.

The unit going into protect mode is what also makes it seem like a short.

Not sure but try looking at the fuses in the engine bay, particularly the two fuses cased in that yellow cage thing. To get them out, you lift up on the cage thing and slide the fuses out the side.

What's up with thread ditchers. Really, I mean we could have the 100% correct answer to all their problems but it seems they never come back, almost ghost-like.

The forums are a strange place.

"POOF" !!

'Smoked' the processor on the momboard of the radio when the current got reversed.

DC current only goes one way along with the applications attached to it. You reverse current and terrible things can happen, esp with electronic junk in a DC world.

It doesn't take much current to knock them out.

Have you tried another radio?

Might have to get a new radio since this one might be a goner.

Reverse current can ''poof!'' an ECU as well. But, you were lucky to not put the key in the "ON" position which turns on the ECU, but to "ACC" to test radio.

Tell friend to leave your car alone since he doesn't know what he's doing.

You sure the radio isn't reverse polarity protected? If my car was up and running (another mini-build) I would run out, and take out that fuse I was talking about earlier. Could almost swear I had the exact same symptoms and that fuse got blown when I was fiddling with stuff back there...

Agree with undefined , use a small section of wire to test and rule out the speaker . If the speakers good then the wiring in between has shorted/ chaffed/ etc. you could then try to narrow down the damage or just run a new set of wires.
