Well I'm not a newb when it comes to working on cars but I am to DSM. I know I can search and find all the info I need but sometimes it can be misinforming. So here's what I'm looking for. I have a 1990 Galant gs-x with jdm vr4 swap. 30k on full oem rebuild, new 5 speed trans, ported and polished head, new axles, new drive shaft, new pads and rotors, new plugs and wires. I'd say I have a pretty good starting point. That being said. I'd like to achieve at least 400whp on the stock motor. This wont be a budget build so money isn't that big of a deal just need to find some healthy combinations: turbo, exhaust mani, intake mani, Fmic, wastegate, bov, I'll have someone fab up my exhaust and ic piping im sure, injectors, Thinking about running e85, clutch and flywheel that will support said parts. I want all this to be achieved without tearing into the motor. It already has arp headbolts and I've heard the oem headgasket is good for my goals. Any input will be appreciated!

Is the headgasket OEM MLS?
You can make 400crank HP on a 16g & E85
exhaust mani - stock is fine
intake mani - stock is fine
Fmic - At least 3" wide. bar & plate
wastegate - internal is fine
BOV - 1g 'gus-modded'

Get some version of DSMLINK

That's very easily accomplished. Since the 16gs are no longer being sold at a reasonable price, find a vendor on here (PM me if you need one, my friend rebuilds Mitsu turbos).

VSRF front mount kit
Dejon hard intake pipe
Stock Maf
680cc injectors
DSM link v3 (you won't regret it)
stock 1g bov
stock 2g exhaust manifold (I would say get the FP mani but for close to $300 it's not worth it new)

By the way nice to hear your in Gaylord, I have a cabin up there and I attended sno*drift last weekend.

Turbo-GT30R (.48-.63 A/R) or HX35-7blade with BEP .55 A/R housing whichever is cheapest
Exhaust Mani-Forced Performance (It is hands down the best bang for you buck mani, will increase spool)
Intake Mani/Throttle Body-Fine. Make sure the seals are good in the throttle body so they don't leak boost.
FMIC- Not sure, I own a 2g. Check out what VR4 guys are running.
Wastegate-Internal is more than fine.
BOV-I recommend a knockoff type s with the bulletproof silicon diaphragm (its red). NGR, Punishment Racing and some on ebay have them. Semi-crushed 1g bov should be fine, but I like the idea of the type s being adjustable and better sounding.
Tuning-DSMLink (very user friendly, so easy a caveman could do it.)
Clutch/Flywheel- XTD stage 4 6 puck off ebay paired with a ebay chromoly flywheel should be fine. 1 washer under pivot ball for this clutch setup.
Injectors- I have Fuel Clinic 1150's that should be good for e-85 and pump/race. I heard all good things for FC. You can always go up with these when you want more power.
Fuel Pump-Walbro 255

Good luck. 400 whp should be no problem on pump gas for you. You can find alot of this stuff used on the classifieds here for great prices. PM me with any other questions.

All of those are over kill for 400whp. I plan on using these for my 600whp setup.

If you like constantly swapping things out, use smaller injectors and turbos. A 16g will be at the limit of its efficiency range at 400 whp not to mention the heat it will create, I'm just saying. The spool on a bb turbo is WAY sooner than any other turbo I have had. He said money is not so much of an issue, so I recommended a setup than will offer more if he wants more. Also post up your dynos when you make that much power on 1 of the turbos I listed, I would love to see it. It WON'T happen.

NGR Type-S BOV at 30psi - YouTube

I actually live in louisville, ky now. Haven't updated my profile. How was snodrift? I went last year and it was alright. I do like the idea of having some room to play around. I was already thinking the hx35 would be a good candidate. It would be nice to only buy shit once. So If I decide to tear into the block and do some forged internals or a stroker kit I won't have to buy new bolt ons. Thanks for the info!

Top 160 Take a look here you will see a lot of people saying in the fourms to do different setups or that they make X amount of power its fairly easy to look threw an make a decision on your own... based off that list...

Good luck with the new car. I am from your area also so if you need any help or anything just hit me up.
Did you ever get that busted bolt off your jpipe? Ever get that boost leak fixed?

Hopefully I will see this car around sometime.

I saw you just posted on the meet up tonight. I'll be there but won't have the car. I haven't gotten the j pipe fixed. I'm heading to lexington tmrw morning to have my friend andrew fix it as well as throw a muffler on it. Its pretty loud. The exhaust is hilarious! Smallest down pipe i've ever seen to a generic cat to a cherry bomb muffler then its straight back, Literally straight back and cut off before the rear end of the car. It needs some work but I think it'll be a good starting point. I would definitely like to meet up and get some insight on these cars or dsm's in general. Its all very new to me.

TSI kid how much horsepower do you make right now?
Just sold my car, going to Navy, but I was sitting at a about 310-330. But this was on a 14b :D

I sold the car to a local friend and I should have a dyno of it before I get back from basic.

My friend in michigan has a 94 talon tsi. I might match his setup. 6/4 swap, 1200cc Precision Turbo injectors, aeromotive rail and fpr, walbro 255, teflon lines for e85, dsmlink v3, evo III 16g, fp exhaust manifold, punishment racing fmic, speed density setup, aem wideband, jacks stage 2 trans and act 2600. He's running roughly 30psi and runs mid 11's. Stock motor, oem head bolts and head gasket.

Sno*drift was ok this year. No celebrity's out there this year (Pastrana,Block,Mirra, etc), but it was still very fun. The event made me realize how passionate Subie guys are and that they are the biggest hippy tuner crowd out there LOL. 80% of all the cars were Subaru. If I would have know they didn't use salt on the roads up there I would have took my dsm.

I think you guys are stretching the reliability of your turbos a bit too far though. It they lasted more than a drag season I would be surprised at those boost levels. And what about the heat produced from it? I'm thinking coked up oil lines or boiling oil. Road racing or road rallying would be abusing that turbo extremely at those pressures also.

If your interested in checking out videos. Check out the stock block records and the turbos they are running, all of them are ball-bearing garrett units. My gt30r spools as almost or as fast as a E16g and makes more power/torque at the same time. You won't regret it and you won't buy anything else after you own one.

The reason I didn't recommend a 2600 because us 7-bolt guy have a greater possibility of "crankwalk" with heavy pressure plates, but with a 6-bolt should be fine, but the XTD kit will save you about $200-300 thats why I recommended it.

Sounds good. I will see you at the meet later on then. I think you can get that bolt out of your jpipe in a matter of minutes. Lowes sells an easy out and If I can find the one that I have I will bring it with me tonight and let you take it home and try to get it out with it.

Its cross threaded bad! Tried heating it up and turning it with vise grips. No go! But its worth a shot

Can you get a drill bit in there and just drill out the bolt and let the pieces fall on the ground? Let me know if you mess up the jpipe as I think I have a couple spares.
