I wanted to know if anybody is using the BGF G-Force r1 tire for a drag racing application? I'm and looking at those and the Hoosier a6s. I know they are more of a road race tire but wanted to know if they would work fine for a drag setting. Any input would be appreciated.

I'm not certain, but autox/roadracing tire will probably have a lot stiffer sidewall than a drag tire and not get as much straight line traction.

That is what I was looking at also in the decription. In the testimonials people were saying they "stick" really well when warm though. I'm looking for a tire to fit my stock wheels and provide some gain in traction off the line.

I'm sure they're better than your average street tire, but not quite as good as a drag tire.

If your looking for straight line traction (ie drag racing) why are you looking at the road racing compounds? (or will you be doing both?) If your just looking for something for straight line traction, look at drag radials or slicks (depending on your stock rim size). I will be going with the Hoosier drag radials in a 225/50/16 size for next season.

The tread compound on the road race tires will be more sticky compared to a street compound but like Erik mentioned, they will more then likely have a stiffer sidewall compared to most street tires, which is exactly the opposite of what to look for in a drag tire.

I've found that the BFG drag radials "cold" in 225/45/17 are almost as easy to break lose as my all season Yokohamas in 245/45/17's when launching with 11.0@133mph power(never had the car dynoed so I don't know HP but estimated 420AWHP) I never attempted a burnout on the DR's as I'm sure that will brake many gears inside differentials/tranny/x-case...but I have a welded center diff so maybe one day but it would definitely not be something I would do each time so the search still continues for the answer to this traction issue and what's best if the tires aren't heated like they're meant to...short of going to a slick and superglue for the first 1/8th mile as I can break them lose in 2nd on my 2.4....:notgood: Best 60' I've been able to get with tire spin or without is a 1.668 and that was on the taller all seasons I run (25.8" vs 24.7") The DR's also tend to wheel hop once they get lose. They're only good for the street where you can drive the car around before the race to warm them up...but lining up at the strip with cold DR's really defeats their purpose :notgood: This might be exclusive to the BFG DRs, I'm not sure as the more expensive M/H, Mickey Thompson, etc DR's might do much better when cold as some of the V8 guys around town tell me.

I'm sure they're better than your average street tire, but not quite as good as a drag tire.

Many people have made the same assumption and paid for it! Usually it is just a wasted day at the track, but others had wheel hop and damaged drivetrain components! Stay away from almost ALL autox/road race tires at the drag strip!

The only RR/AutoX tire that had some success at the drag strip is the Toyo Proxes RA1. But they also happen to be one of the "lesser racing" tires that are available. I used them for may years when I was doing "spectator drags" at a local oval track. There, I needed both launch and handling, so this tire offered a good compromise. When I switched to BFG G-force drag radials, my 60' times improved by about .05 sec.
