Wondering whats the best turbo for a built motor automatic, running a SMIM, and 272 Cams? I have an Evo3 16g on it now, and I don't think it can keep up with the motor...

Wondering if anyone has a DD auto and what size turbo do they run?

i have an auto 2g 7bolt and was using big 16g. i have my motor apart right now currently rebuilding it and my plan is to use gt35 on this beast.

I think the 35r will be little too big for a DD, for me at least. If I was to run the 35r, I would put it on a 2.4L motor.

Right now low end is pretty bad. I mean i can put up with it, just wondering what everyone else runs.

This is a question that I shall soon be debating as well. Once my A/T GSX has its new motor, my next decision will be which turbo to install. Similar to the OP’s query, I imagine my FP Big28 will quickly become “uninspiring” to me. Consequently, I would value the experiences of others (the same as the OP asks about) concerning a good DD turbo with an A/T GSX. My conversations with some vendors have brought up the FP Green, the BW S256, the GT3076R, the HX-35, and the PTE BB HP5557 as upgrade choices for my FP Big28. Of course, I am sure there are other candidates as well. Still, it has been only suggestions, and nothing based on experiences with any of the mentioned turbos on an A/T GSX. Like the OP, I welcome examples from those having used, and experienced, a DD turbo on an A/T GSX (possibly ones better [easier] capable of reaching 400whp than an Evo3 16g, or an FP Big28).
Thanks,
Jim

If you're not looking for huge power, the PTE 58/57 would be great, BB if you're worried about spool. Saw a dyno graph where it spools almost exactly like the 55/57 but made a decent amount more power up top.

I have a 61/52S (61/62) and it's too big even with a custom torque converter. I'd run the PTE58/57 in a .58 T4 and make sure you have some fuel and a basic restall to take advantage of it.

Who replied with a suggestion that has run it on their auto :)?

I ran the small 16g on the auto and it was great with the stock stall. Since my h1c/hx35 spools about the same but flows a bit more at the same boost, I can only assume it would be even better. But logically, because more flow at the same rpm and boost means more torque and more torque gets your stall to tighten sooner. That translates to better street manners, IMO.

I can say for sure that it does spool faster than a td06sl2 18g. This guy did a direct swap with the stock stall: click. Brake boosts better than the FP18g.

I suppose, since you have a SMIM, built motor, 272s and already an evo3 16g, you're looking for a larger turbo than the evo3 16g suggested:rolleyes:.

How do you guys deal with the lag? Low end seems so blah...
I think I would go with a 50trim BB. But will launching on a stock converter be ok?

The reason you have so much "lag" is because you are on a stock converter and probably a bad tune. I didn't have any on my SCM5031, however, my S372 seems a little sluggish off the line.

I was able to launch at over 20psi at 4k rpms on the old 50.

FP T28 ported. Spools quick for stop light to stop light traffic without having to rev the engine.
