I know 5btdc is the factory base setting. I was reading you can set it to 3*btdc for faster spool time, is this true? What would be the best setting to avoid knock at higher rpm? If I set it to 3* would that make it more likely to knock at higher rpm? Thanks
Running stock cam's, Ported 14b and manifold, fp 255pump rewired. 18psi, SAFC II etc
Already spools super quick. Just alway's looking to squeeze more out of it.
Thnk's :hellyeah:

It's not a good idea to adjust the cas for timing advance because the cas also controls injector pulse. The reason that you set it to 5 degrees is because the ecu needs a baseline. The ecu assumes that the engine is at 5 degrees when it fires the injectors and ignition. The ecu will adjust the timing off that base signal as it needs to.

why of the 5* BTDC..just to get the best performance out of the A/F ratios.

What the o2 sensor does - sends voltage returns to the ECU if it senses lean oxygen or rich oxygen to the ECU to have the injectors fire rich or lean to keep the A/F ratios close to the required 14.7:1 mix. Retard timing and the O2 might sense more rich, thus reducing injector fuel delivery making a gradual loss of power and the sniff test will fail due to excessive CO emissions.

People up in the higher elevation areas will advance timing a couple of degrees to compensate for the higher altitude and stop there.

Leave your Timing alone or make sure it is infact set a 5°

Also people 3° is retarded not advanced.... there's no reason to touch your base timing unless your pulling alot of fuel with the SAFC because your running Larger Fuel injectors an in turn advancing your timing

When you pull timing your generating more heat in the exhaust theres no reason to try to get more spool out of a 14b

I would hope you have some sort of logger being you have a safc? 18psi is running on the edge for stock Injectors Also knock is dependent on alot of other factors besides just timing but it it is one of the most Important factors

Now that I think about it it may help get rid of any knock he may be getting.

If he has pulled any airflow using the SAFC II that will add unnecessary timing and maybe dropping it to 3 BTDC might help him in the long run.

Not sure though.

Thank's for the advice. Just figured i'd ask, never killed nobody, right? Should i switch to a holset hx35 ? Still want the fast spool and dsm graveyard sell's the hx35 with a internal wastegate and t25 flange for round $600. or for $200 more buy the ht68ha? I plan on switching to E85 by febuary. I've only ran 14bw/7cm housing and 16g's on all my car's
