Hey guys. I was reading the only thread posted about a bent intake cam gear and i just wanted to know, Would changing that cam gear get rid of the loud noise?... My intake cam gear is bent,.... one of my "buddies" decided to leave a cloth on the valve cover :nono: before starting my car. Now everytime i start my engine or rev it...I get this sound.. like a grinding or a vibration. I was STRESSING OMG. I though something broke or bent internally. Its was loud. So i did a compression check and checked my oil pressure. Compression was between 165-175 on all four cylinders and oil pressure was at 85psi at 2500. Hopefully thoese are good numbers. I dont think i bent the cam, but i could see the intake gear sway back and forth just a little. So maybe its hitting the head?..Or grinding on something?... Any advise would be VERY VERY helpful...

---THANKS.

I cant really see any kinda wear on the head or the inside of the pulley. And i havent checked the torque on the bolt. What is the torque spec?

Its torque is at 60ft.lbs right now??.... I also checked the head for any kinda wear or anything like that. NOTHING. No marks on the gear or the head. I also took the valve cover off to check and see if there was any damage. Nothing under there. No metal shaving, no play in anything, Everything looks good. :banghead:

It wouldn't hurt to just replace the cams gear.Maybe buy some after market if not some use oem on ebay. But I would take the head back apart to see if you have any damage on the pistons rotate the cam gear to see if you can see any bent or damage valve.

if he had bent valves he wouldn't have 165 psi of compression, would he?
i have the same issue with the engine i just built i don't know how it happened but my exhaust gear is bent, should i try re-torquing it more correctly or just swap cams with ones i know are good?
