I was wondering if anyone could help me out on this one, I was driving and my alternator belt snapped, i just so happened to be around the corner from Autozone so i made it there and against my better judgement i put a duralast belt on. Got home tightened everything up. But now My a/c belt is squaling like crazy, checked the belt tightened to spec but the squeals wont go away. Also My alternator belt is tight but when i start the car I have to hold the gas down and rev the S**t out of it to charge even though i have checked the belt and it is tight. Also put a new Crank Pulley on about 20k ago. Is it possible The belt snapping could have damaged a pulley or something????

Did you plug in the alternator connector? Not just the power connector I mean the connector to the ECU.

We had a client won his 5th alternator on his Ford Exploder and the shop he went to kept saying sorry must be a bad batch, gladly charging him labour everytime. he Came to our shop to have us look at the wiring. I took his original alternator, put it back in and plugged the 4 pin connector..lo and behold it charged and hasn't failed yet...its been 3 months.

Sqeaks could be a sign that your belts aren't tight enough. Try tightening the AC belt a little more - that did the trick for me. If that doesn't work, I would try to isolate where the squeal is coming from then see what you find. I found that my crank pulley needs to be replaced. As for your rough starts - it could be a number of things. Hopefully when the belt snapped, it didn't affect your timing. Good luck.

Yes the connectors are all plugged in, and i just came in from outside I tightened the belt as tight as it goes and it still squeals, Well on saturday I guess i will just have to replace all the belts Again........ It just seems a little weird its like once i drive the car for a while and it warms up the belts magically stop squeking and it runs like a top. No missing no sputtering also since the belt broke all this crap happened, before that the car ran perfect. I really hope I didnt break a pulley... I will definitly check the timing and my solution for now , I am going outside to cut the ac belt off, its cool enough now that i do not need a/c, Thanks for the help i will check evrything and let you know if its fixed, but for now its exacto time!

if i were you, i'd check the alternator itself... as in the pulley/bearing. it could be a lil stiff and that's what caused your old belt to finally snap and making it hard to turn... hence the squeal ### the belt is slipping... and also making it hard to charge your system... the only thing i can think of that would have caused all of that to happen. loosen the belt and try to spin the alternator pulley and see how difficult it is to do so.

OEM belts. Our DSM's are touchy. try an OEM belt avoid napa and dayco even goodyear gave me problems. i know it sounds dumb but i went through 7 belts then went back to oem. problem solved.
hope this helps

The pulley turns easily on the alt, I previuosly had gates belts on there and they never squaled I am begining to think the cheap autozone belt is actually stretching becuase i got it tight i dont want to kill it and it still squeals, I ordered three new belts today. I will put them on on saturday and see how it gos from there. thank you all for your feedback

Ok, I am back up an running perfect again, replaced the belts with mitsu oem and replaced the crank pulley while i was in there, adj timing, set biss screw just in case and i am running like a champ again, thanks for your guys help

I just replaced all my belts with factory, I'm almost positive that the OEM accessory belts are made by dayco, it's raining so I'm not going to check, but I'm sure I remember seeing dayco on them..
