ok heres the problem:

My car is making between 15.3 volts to 16.2 volts. I know this is very high. I just replaced the alt about 2 months ago. Everytime I turn on the car it makes a reallyt loud squealing sound. It goes away when i start moving but starts squealing again when my car come back to idle. Also at night everything in my car flickers due to the high voltage, but I am not blowing any fuses..any suggestions would be great..thanks

The squealing problem you have I just got too...right after I had my belts changed. It happened a little bit before when my belts were cracking but no where near to this extent. It happens right when i start up and goes away after I idle for a little bit but DAMN. it's loud. In short, I'd suggest getting the belts looked at and adjusted as it seems to be the source of my problem. Check your alternator belt.

For your alternator to be charging at 15.3v to 16.2v means that the internal votage regulator is not operating properly inside the alternator. meaning that the alternator unit itself is faulty. Hopefully you can exchange the alt. unit where you bought it from for another one. As for your belt squeek, ether the belt(s) are old/glazed and require replacment or loose and need a tensioning adjustment.

Taaa Daa. Everyone is right. It appears the alternator is overcharging. Probably bad alternator. If it's loading too hard, it could put extra stress on the belt/crank pulley which will squeal. These things are notorious for crank pulley coming apart. Usually at the worst possible time.

Good Job Guys. Kudos for all

Funny I have similar problem, mine will go up to as high as over 17v revving hte motor just a little bit. IT's at 15-16 idle!

Thanks to luv2rallye I'm starting to get to know about alternators, once I replace mine I'll really know about it hands on. HE definitely deserves some rep points.

Yes its the voltage regulator and means prob. time to change the alternator, I have asked in 3 different DSM forums.
