I am looking for recommendations on how to get some decent bas without sacrificing all of my trunk space. I was running two 12s but i had no trunk. I am tired of having no trunk. I tried just running the inside speakers on two seperate two channel amps but the bass wasn't enough for my liking. I am hoping someone with a dsm can help me out. The idea is that i really want to put things in my trunk.

Also if someone has acheived a decent amount of bass without subs i would love to here of your setup.

I dont know. I have a 10" Jensen Bandpass system with a Jensen 300 or 350watt amp. It gets pretty loud. Actually its as loud as my friends 2 10" sealed box system. The bandpass is really small and nice. Its not really loud but it does more then the job I want it to do. I got it at Walmart.

Bass tube, takes 0 space, sounds great.

Or the Infinity Basslink, either would be great.

Both are self amplified so you dont need an amp either.

I am kind of nervous about the spare tire thing for long trip. I have no probs with the amp space it is just the size of the box i was using for my 2 twelves. I need more space then what was left behind after installing the box.

On a side note....anyone know of any subs that DO NOT require large volume boxes? I think i am going to have something built so i am looking for som direction on this issue.

kicker competition series aren't really picky about air space - even in a small truck box they rock :thumb:

Yeah, I use Audiobahn's. The 12" sounds great in a sealed box with only 1 cubic foot.

I just put my 2 12's in mine this evening, and turned it up to see what would raddle, and the whole damn trunk rattles, do you all know of anyways to get it to stop other then to turn it down? cuz i like it loud but with out raddling..... a space saver idea...assuming you have a rear strut bar, i found that truck boxes sit rather nicely between back seats and rear upper strut bar! the seats dont latch shut but are close and takes up no trunk space

Matt

DYNAMAT..... or any kind of sound blocker. Remove your panels and put it on the inner sides and trunk. Should help with alot of your distortion and rattle. As far as Subs. I like MA Audio's and they take a very small cubic space....

Dynamat, lots of it. Also see if you can track it down, sometimes those plastic materials will rattle to hell if one of the clips is off a little bit. My stock spoiler used to rattle w/ my bass tube.

You want to save space.

Like said before. Bass tube or Basslink. That is all, if you dont want to go custom

Ive got a bass tube in my 1g. love it. If you're not a basshead, go for it.

Or, i was just thinking

A buddy from Caraudioforum met up with me to buy my Phoenix Gold Stuff. He showed me his ported 8" RE setup. 2 eight's, ported at 30 hz. the box was the size of a boombox you could just carry around. and he had this POS big old buick car, and it still was looooud. I was amazed.

Bass tubes are mostly 8 inch ported, but mostly internally amplified. Basslink is 10 inch, internally amplified.

If you got some good 8's, you'd have to buy an amp that does about 800 watts at 2 ohms.

I suggest the eD e8a, JL 8w7 (or a couple of 8wO's) or RE 8's.

well ...dynomat,,ok but that shit is sooo expinsive,, what about that spray on stuff like dynoshield or something like that? how do those pieces come off exactly? i've gotten the ones for tail lights, and that center rear peice, and the spare tire of course but what aboutt hose other panels?

All depends, do you want it to sound good or sound like shit? Take your pick really. Off the top of my head, i cant remember, but i believe its a few screws and most of the plastic panels pop off.

Its not easy, but you can build enclosures(6 1/2" or 8" subs) in the rear panels that hold the stock speakers,You can also mount enclosed or baffled 6 1/2's in doors, either of these done properly(enclosed and sealed) will give you a large amount of bass, you won't win any spl contests, but you will be suprised. Also Dynamat doesn't just stop rattles, it can actually make your car a lot louder, properly applied Dynamat can give you an increase of around 3db, which doesn't sound like much but, since db is a logarithmic scale, 3 db is the equivalent of doubling your systems amplified power. You could also do an isobaric enclosure, which allows you to use half the required enclosure airspace.

These are more then likelike the speakers i am going to go with. Well the e8a that is. From my understanding is that they are dual voice coil which means i will need a 1 ohm stable amp to push these things correct? I like the prospect of the e8a cause they only require .5 cubic feet of air space and from my understanding they really thump. What are RE's and where can i look up info on them at?

you could do 1 12 on the side of the trunkjust behind the wheel well. and then the amp can go on the other side of the car looks really good and sounds great I just finished on 3 days ago. We used a 12 phoenix gold xs 12. they like smae sealed boxes ( i went .8) Or if you don't want subs you can go to phoenix gold and get a set of 951's for your front doors and that would sound great but they are a lil on the pricey side.

Don't laugh. Sony home theater 8" ported subwoofer enclosure. Very small box. Very small amp to push it. Weight = almost nothing. Bass? Sounded great, but no SPL system. Plenty of low frequency response for music, but not enough to rattle your brain. That's what 160 dB systems in SUV's are for... Okay go ahead and laugh now.

I did not read all the post, this may be in one of them.
IMO it depends o how much bass you want. You just want a clean sound get the jl audio stealthbox. If you want alot of bass try an 8w7 or a 10w7 both made by jl audio. 10w7 will put out more than the 8w7 but the 8w7 is so compact compared to the 10 or 12w7s. Another thing you could go for is if you want a little bass try the bass tubes. I saw somewhere on the net a while back that has 6x9 subwoofers. they where kinda cheap but i was wondering if anyone else has seen these?

I don;t know if you have gotten many responses to this yet.. i didn;t read the whole thread. Directed Studios has a great subwoofer that is made for low air volume. My friend has them in his jeep wrangler (behind the backseat... now thats a small space) They hit harder and cleaner than my MTX and a different friends Alpine. Great buy for the money, and they require very little volume.

You could also try taking out your backseat to have trunk space. It's not like any real sized person can actually fit back there anyway.

Well i decided to turn my trunk floor into a speaker box. I am going to go with Two Soundstream RS10Q which only require about .5 cubic feet. I am basically going to redesign everything in the car to be soundstream.

On a side note, has anyone done the false floor bass mod?

Right now, I have two Image Dynamics ID12's and a Rockford 4x300 watt amp. Those subs will take your mirrors off and they don't take a whole lot of room. If you custom built the box, you could probably take up less than half the trunk with the amp mounted to the box. I'm going to be switching to a Kicker L7 Solo-Barac 15" square and a Power Acoustik 900 watt amp though. My brother has an L5 Solo-Barac 8" in his DeLorean mounted behind the seat and that sounds great. The advantage to those is that it's a square sub intead of round so an 8" square will pound like a 10" or a 12" while taking up less space.

MYX thunder 6500 class D amp. puts out 500 watts RMS powering a single 12inch infinity dual voice coil sup with a single farad capacitor. today it took off my rear view mirrow. later on ill be upgrading the sub to a JL audio 12w6 hehe. that thing has some major throw to it and dontt suffer from the tiny voice coils that the w3 series has. thats the head trobbing bass route that gives you some more trunk space.

lets see, these guys are right, it all depends on how much base u actualy want. but, more so on what type of music u like to listen to. as one of the guys above said with the image idq 12's awesome and done require all that much space to play a nice range of base. If your going with the spare tire well thing you can fit 2 idq 15's in there as well, I did it and still have the set up sitting in the garadge. it seems like no one has heard of diamond audio. I would look for a pair of there macdaddy 12's or 10's very loud very durable and they were designed for sound quality. we used them(12's) in a 1g in street class with one us amps 400x dbdrag(thats the car all sealed up, mic at the dash) 152.6 db unreal speakers.
