Base, Advance, And reported timing.

Does TMO software, and/or the other loggers out there for 1gs report timing as the advance, or as the advance plus assumed base?

By the way, what is the factory base? 5 or 10? I haven't found a diffinitive answer.


Example: Logger reports 15° is that 15° advance or 10° advance on a 5° base.

If the logger says 15 degrees, then the spark plug is firing 15 degrees before the crank (well, the cam really) reaches TDC.

Alright Just wanted to check. Thats what I've heard, and thats what my car runs best at or near, however my chiltons said that the timing cover is marked for the stock degree of advance. Well mine is marked 10°, however its a JDM engine so I imagine thats the reason it isn't marked 5°.


Also just checking on the logger report because some ECMs in cars and some scanning devices ONLY report the advance added to the base and not the total of both.

All USDM timing belt covers are marked for 0, 5, 10, and 15 degrees.

There may be 5° incremental notches, but there's absolutely only one numerical designation, which is an obvious "10° BTDC"


And on a side note, with a dial timing light the notches aren't at a very acurate 5° increment at all.

So what does your timing read at idle? Anyone with a pocketlogger, I have a 1G with MMCd software and read 8*-10* at 750-800 rpm.
