Hey guys. I've read plenty of articles on how to remove my balance shaft but I've read it's a total PITA especially when the engine is still in the car. I have nowhere near the amount of tools needed to take out my engine nor the knowledge to do so. Does anyone know of any place in Cali (preferably Stockton area) that can do this for me? I'm way too scared to approach it by myself. I've just read that it's very hard. Idk if a typical shop could do it cause I'd figure they'd question why I'm removing something that was MADE to be in the car =/

Any advice?

yes it is a giant pain in the ass while it is still in the car, it would be easier if you have a cherry picker to just pluck your motor and tranny out of the car. But the front case has to come off. and if your gsx is anything like my gsx, it *&^*ing sucks!

EDIT: its not really hard once you get all of your timing components out of the way. (Like i said out of the car would make things 10000% easier) after you pull your front case, oil pump and balance shafts out. plug the hole with the added freeze plug and install the stubby shafts where the Bshafts use to be and bam your done.

I am am wrong (which is highly likely) LOL

This was a great help for me when i researched it.

Hey thanks for the response man. I actually just watched that video yesterday. Idk if it's different for the newer model GSX's though. I talked to a friend about it today. He doesn't think it's necessary as of RIGHT NOW to remove my balance shaft but I thought I'd get more opinions.

What does everyone else think? Should I get it removed right now since I plan to have my timing belt, water pump and head gasket changed? Does anyone have any other suggestions on what I should get replaced if I'm gonna be replacing all these things also?

The reason I'm thinking about getting rid of the balance shaft is cause I've heard of a lot of horror stories of people who modify their DSMs but don't remove the balance shaft. It scares me a bit so I'm just wondering what I should do since I plan to mod my car soon (I'm just in the process of purchasing more parts).

Yes. If you've already got all those items out of the way, do it now. Because I guarantee you're not going to want to have to take all that off again to do it.

Well here's the thing. I have an e3b16g turbo with punishment racing fmic, injen intake and filter, and evo 3 O2 housing. Then here are the list of parts I have taken from another one of my thread that aren't installed on the car yet:

-Boost gauge
-Water temp gauge
-Oil pressure gauge
-Oil temp gauge
-Innovate LC-1 wideband controller with O2 sensor and DB gauge (wideband a/f)
-Fuelab 515 series FPR with 99 eclipse mounting kit
-Denso supra TT fuel pump
-1g BOV
-Apexi dunk 3" turbo back exhaust (cat-less) with Megan racing 3" downpipe

I wanna do the balance shaft mod but do you have any suggestions on what else I should get next? (besides injectors) I have some clues but I wanna know by priority. I'd really like some advice.

There's no real great reason to get rid of them besides making t-belt changes easier in the future and a minute amount less rotational resistance. Unless you're pulling the motor out for a rebuild, I wouldn't bother with this, there's not enough benefit to make it worth it.

If your doing a bse you might as well do both of the oil port mods by bogussvo on the forums. When you delete your balance shaft many see increases in oil pressure and the two mods are simple and safe to do.

Armin

I also reccomend to felted your balance shaft, this many people who work on dsms wouldn't be advising towards it otherwise. I personally don't care about vibrations since my cars already on coil overs with polyurethane bushings so when I do my swap I'm going to do it anyway. Takes out one more thing that can save you an engine? Pretty worth it to me

Hypergenesis, how much more would that cost me? I've heard of the increased oil pressure con (or pro depending on how you look at it I guess) and I didn't know there was a solution to fix it.

If i was you i would remove the balance shaft like people are saying i can save your engine from getting trash like mine did. My balance shaft lock up the rear one, and sized up mine oil pump with it couse the block to threw a rod making a hole on my block. Well pretty much is trash noting is usable just the head, like people stated before since you doing all that work mine as well remove them you can buy the kit from stm with like 60 bucks, and do oil filter housing mod and you be good, its one less belt, and if the bs belt brakes it can get cought with timing belt with can trash you motor..

The hardest part of doing the delete is doing the rear bearing replacement on the front bs. Just follow the vfaq.com tutorial and your set. Way easier on a lift also. I work at a shop so i was able to use a lift. Good Luck.
