my 91 talon tsi ,when i rebuilt it last year i did a balance shaft removal. a couple of times after really running it hard id start it up and it sounded like the bottem end was coming out of it for about a few seconds . was this due to the balance shafts being removed ? i have a 93 laser n/t 5 speed that im working on now and want to remove the balance shafts but it makes me nervose im afraid to lose the bottem end .is removing them really a good option?

The shaft coming off the oil pump will still be turning. The fron shaft can be left in without problems, but if the rear shaft is still turning you will not have the counter weight of the front shaft, causing serious vibration.

Wolf20043 is correct. The only way to bypass the rear shaft is to put the stubby shaft on, or cut the weights off of the shaft and weld the center. The stubby shaft not only eliminates the rear shaft, but it also blocks the oil flow to the rear shaft.

The front shaft is oiled by the galleys in the block itself, so you need to block them by either turning the bearings to the oil holes don't line up or by just leaving the shaft in there. The rear shaft is oiled through the inside of balance shaft directly from the oil pump.

Both need to be blocked so you don't lose oil pressure.
 
although...............I did a BSE with Zero Money.

I chucked the rear shaft up in a Ban Saw, and cut the end off. Took it over to my welder, and welded the oil feed hole shut, deburred it with a dremel grinder.

Knocked the front bearings OUT, drilled the small philips plugs out to 11/32, the oil feed gallies that feed the front shaft are perfect for a 1/4-28 tap, so I tapped the oil gallies with a 1/4-28 tap, then I vacuumed out the metal shavings and installed a 4" long 1/4-28 bolt, after tightening the bolt I cut the remainder off with 90* die grinder, then I tapped the 11/32 hole to 1/8 npt and installed a 1/8 NPT pipe plug.

Then I installed the front BS seal in the front case, grabbed a 40mm freeze plug and some JB weld. I mixed up some JB weld and sealed the 40mm freeze plug around the raised portion where the front bs would pertrude. I gently tapped the freeze plug down with a brass hammer till it rested snuggly.

End of story.
