Balance shaft Elimination

I had a mechanic build my motor a year ago in Texas, the balance shaft was eliminated and he did not know to install a block-off bearing so when I got the car, oil leaked and I spun all the rods and scored the crank...This past May (2007), my current turbo mechanic repaired my rod/crank problem and said he turned the block-off bearing so oil couldn't pass through. That's all. I still have a small leak and I am going back for warranty work next month, but I just want to know...what is the procedure when eliminating the balance shaft? Isn't there more that has to be done than just installing a block-off bearing?

In a word. Yes. There's a lot more. I know somewhere in here we've covered that one a multitude of times. Which proves just because someone says they are a mechanic doesn't necessarily mean they know what they are doing.

Be very careful and use locktite on the oil pump bolt which by passes the rear balance shaft.
