Balance Shaft Elim?

So i have been reading on the balance shaft elimination, which seems mainly to beinifit the timing belt from being F*@#d over! If You remove the shaft does that hurt anything? like why is it even in there if people rip it out? Is it better just to properly maintain the belt so it doesnt break, or just remove all of this stuff all together? I searched balance shaft by the way and didnt really find anything, except removing the belt related things.

The balance shaft serves one purpose. To reduce engine vibration and make the ride smoother for the driver. Now removing it has proven to do little to the engine vibrations. Mainly its just another part that can go wrong so dsms usually just have em removed. It would be a ton easier to remove it all together. Think about it this way it is about as invasive as removing the belt but you never had to replace the belt again. So in the long run it saves you time parts and takes one more thing out of the equation.

Well then looks as there is no disadvantages to doing this then? i figured after reading some threads it could have some, but they were very confusing threads

Yea pretty simple. Take the balance shaft out. Buy a kit. I recommend the FFWD connection kit. IT IS the BEST!! Take the old bearing out. Put new bearings in. Make sure the oil hole does not line up with the new bearing. You can use a rtv or lithium grease to slide it in. Make sure they are flat with the surface. Put the cover on the left upper front case. Use loctite to seal it in. Use a bolt for the old tensioner for teh balance shaft so oil doesnt come out. Make sure you loctite it or seal it. If you get the ffwd kit, you'll get the balance shaft spacer you you dont have to reuse the sprocket behind the crank sprocket. and you're done.

The 4G63 engine has balance shafts to cancel second order harmonic vibrations due to the velocity differences between the pistons. The piston going up does not exactly balance the piston going down because of the geometry.

If you don't remove the balance shafts then be sure to replace their bearings.

The balance shafts are there to get rid of vibrations that might be felt by the driver. They didn't make these cars as race cars. Removing them will increase oil pressure, free up some power, make the engine rev quicker, and take some stress off the engine.

Alright everyone thanks for the info, I may look into doing this while it is parked in the driveway the next few months, hopefully im drving it by september!
