Hello, I'm new to the website. I originally started working with 240s and always seen DSM car and always wanted one. So I bit the bullet and got a project. I bought a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi that had a dropped valve. The previous owner said it had to do with the timing belt snapping. Except the motor ran for a bit with a tooth off the timing. So every valve was bent and the head was junk. I finally finished my 240 so I pushed the Talon in to start work. Got the rest of everything removed and got the motor out. I have the engine on a stand and removed the oil pan aaaaand. A bearing was just sitting in the pan, I then quickly realized that it's the bearing for one of the balance shafts. It's the shaft that I guess is connected to the oil pump. (I'm not sure) It's the shaft that just has one bearing. So that's my introduction. But my main question is, is the block junk? Or can I have the journal ground out and put a bigger bearing inside. I have yet to see over sized bearings for the shafts.

No need. Just eliminate the shafts. Well documented mod.

I've thought about saying screw it and do that and delete the shafts. But wasn't there a thing reasoning why you don't want to delete them? They talked about if you delete them it can break cranks, clutches, transmission etc.

To clarify, the balance shaft rotates in opposite direction in direct correlation to the oil pump which rotates along the back of the block.

For keeping the motor in perfect balance with a perfect smooth rev and idle the engineers put in balance shafts. (As opposed to Ford who just doesnt give a damn and those cars shake at idle from the factory)
