Hey guys,

So my car backfired on the highway today, i floored it and it backfired about 3 times really quick. I drove it up the road about 200 yards and my exhaust temp was extremely high. My RPM's started to go wack, they would go from like 700 to 0, i had to stop at a light and the car died. Anyhow i got my other car and went up and jumped it and was able to get it almost home before it died again, then had to jump it again.
I just replaced my alternator and battery about 6 months back, but my voltage was never steady on the car, my headlights would get bright and dim, bright and dim. Can my alternator cause the car to backfire like this, i am suspecting that maybe the car didn't have enough juice to run the SAFC properly and thats why it backfired?
Please let me know,

Thanks,
Steve

Um, thats called fuel cut :) And yes i would say that is what happened, ive driven on enough dead batteries and alts to say that for sure.

BTW, what did you replace it with if the volts were all over the place, did you try to chase down the issue? Thats not healthy in any stretch LOL.
