Had oil pump fail while it was on the lift

Started the car, Heard a noise. Shut off

Looked all around like crazy, After a long search and many re-start attempts

Did compression test - Had zero compression in all cylinders

Car would backfire to intake upon trying to start

Pulled timing cover off and come to find out the oil pump sprocket rounded off and broke. The pump inside seized, it was a new OE Pump . not Top Line

So, We drop the pan - No shavings
Pull the pump off, Remove the gear cover, chewed up nasty. Metal shavings inside the case.

So, we are getting a new cover, sprocket, etc.

Everything in the head looks good, Bottom end looks fine, Cant see anything chewed up

So, My question is :

Would complete lack of oil pressure prevent the the lifters from operating causing zero compression?

and/ or what other thoughts do you have?

Thanks!

Yes, they are hydralic lifters and if there is no pressure then they wont open of close. Also make sure that your timing is correct that would also show there is no compresstion if your exhaust cam is 180 degrees out of sync.
