Axle question

I just replaced the driver side axle for my 97 gst with an autozone axle. As of now the axle does not lock fully into the diff. There is about a half a centimeter of play which is causing tranny fluid to slowly seep out. I am wondering if anyone had a similar situation. Could it be a crappy c-clip or the even the wrong axle? Any suggestions are welcome.

Make sure you compare the ends of the axles, I got 4 different Axles before the right one from them. Also replace the oil seal there as well.

Crap... I gave the stock one back as the core so there's no way I can compare now. I can't believe it took them 4 tries to get the right axle. Someone else from dsmtalk mentioned that it took him 3 tries before they got it right. What's wrong with these autozone guys??? Anyways, about the 4 different axles you had, were the other one's totally wrong ie wrong length or spline count or a just minor difference in the ends? I ask because my situation seems like it's just a bad c-clip or something. I

All Turbo, where you at in Socal? I have 4 extra axles. I can use them to compare to what you need and send you a picture.

The driverside would be the shortest of them all due to the half shaft being in use. That coudl help them get you the right one.

Hey EE thanks for the offering to help, I appreciate it but I have a gst
BTW I'm live near Pasadena, if you know any other fwd DSM with extra axles to compare with could you ask for pics. Thanks. I'm probably going to bring them back to autozone, but it would be nice to see if there is a difference.

These "rebuilt" axles are nothing more than a new cup ( in some cases all they get it the wire wheel ) and a new boot with grease. I know one time they gave me a axle with bigger splines and I tried for an hour and some jamming it in there because I though the clip ring thing was being stubborn. Then I took that off to see if it would even slide in and it was 2mm to big!....then got one that fit...drove 4 feet out the garage and it fell apart right there. alittle later got the last axle and it was for the driver side ! The 4th worked, but the clip ring that holds the boot to the cup must expand at higher RPMs because it flung grease everywhere so I have to pull it AGAIN>. It sucks. By the way this was napa but they use the same supplier.

^^ Good lord it sucks to hear that.. Considering the dealer was charging $260, I felt the autozone axles were a bargain, but I guess you get what you pay for. I'm going to try exchanging them once, if that doesn't work it looks like raxles for me.
