hey i know some of the hidden things u have to do but i bought a 91 auto with a blown trans. so i want to convert it to 5 speed i need to know EVERYTHING TO DO THIS please.

AND PLEASE NO POSTS THAT ARENT HELPFUL LIKE ITS GONNA TAKE A LOT OF MONEY OR ITS GONNA BE NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE. JUST THE PARTS THAT I NEED TO MAKE THE SWAP THANK YOU

I just did this swap myself. Are you working on a 1g or 2g? you will need of course the tranny, transfer case (they are different) your front axels and intermediate shaft from the AT will work. flywheel and clutch. clutch lines, master cylinder, slave cylinder, shifter assembly and cables(if doing this on a 1g make sure you get the right shifter assembly and cables for the tranny. 90 trannies will only work with 90 shifter and cables, 91-94 will only work with 91-94 shifter and cables) there is a post on www.ClubDSM.com VFAQ's about the differences. you will also need the passenger side tranny mount from the MT donor car you will need the whole thing the mount on the fender and the tranny mount. you will also need a rear end out of a MT awd car as the gearing is different between the AT rear and MT rear. I found this out the hard way!! Break and Clutch pedals from a MT car. Your AT starter should work. just make sure that you take off the starter plate from the block and line it up with the tranny. some will need to have the starter bolt holes re-drilled and the start hole it self enlarged to line up properly!
I believe that is all. i don't think i forgot anything. It's a pretty straight forward swap. mitsu was nice and left all the bolt holes you will need. you will have to knock out the holes in the firewall though. they are visible and fairly easy to do as well. Again club dsm vfaq's has a page on doing a AT To MT swap on a 1G maybe 2G also. only they did it on a FWD
I have done both a 2G FWD conversion and a 1G AWD conversion.
Hope this helps..

the front axels on a 1g awd AT will work on a Manual Tranny. Not sure if they are the same on a 2g awd. I know that the 2g fwd axels are different. the rear axels should be the same you will just need to change the rear end gearing for the gears out of a MT awd or swap the rear diff. Now the rear axels are different on 1g's between the LSD rear and the non-LSD rear. so make sure you get which rear you have or you'll have to switch rear axels as well.

Im going to do the auto to manual swap soon and have all the parts I need. I have a 4 bolt lsd rear end in my car now, but as said above with the 5 speed tranny I need to change to the rear end of a 5 speed. The 5 speed rear I have is a 3 bolt lsd. Is it possible to use my old 4 bolt axels with the 3 bolt differential? Thanks Kevin
