Hey guys just bought the D1 and just got it in tonite. I really don't feel like ripping apart the dash to get the VSS. I was told I need to hook that up for the GPS, I really don't think that is true. Anyone have experience w/ this.

I am assuming that VSS = vehicle speed sensor. If you DO need it, you don't need to tear apart the dash, just get to the ECU. But I do not think you need it. Because of how GPS works, it will be able to figure out how fast you are going by itself. If the instructions say you need it though, there is probably a reason. I think the D1 offers a limited number of digital gauges on the screen including speedo. That might be what it need the VSS for, not for GPS.

The D1 uses the VSS to make the GPS more accurate at lower speeds. GPS is only accurate to about 30feet. The VSS will allow the nav system to know how far you've traveled. It will work without the VSS but it will work better with it.

The times I have used GPS, it was very accurate without any external sensors. If you think about it, just about every GPS out there is standalone. Handheld units are used in cars, ATVs, or walking.

Either way, you should post pics of how it looks installed. I thought about getting the D1.
