dh,
So this current problem has recently started and im not sure why. I have the avcr and had set my car up on setting a for 17 psi. for about a week it ran fine and help 17 psi at around 63% duty. i also had the setting b but this was set up at 12 psi dor daily driving. Then one day it randomly clearned setting a and copied the settings from setting b.... sucks but no big deal i thought id just set it back up... wrong, now itll boost and hold up to 15 psi and it will only hold 15 psi at 88% duty...
i do have a small boost leak in the throttle body at the actual throttle piece but ive had that since i got the car many months ago... other then that no leaks at all... anyone with any ideas? and the turbo is a big 16g..

Its not cause of your boost leaks, the avcr runs off of a 4 bar map-like sensor so leaks do not effect anything. I have an avcr and quite frankly i find it to be a big pain in the ass in general. Its damn near impossible to get any consistant boost control out of it unless you know it in and out.

So you have a Boost leak(that you've known about and is probably getting worse) and you want to know why you can boost as high anymore?

Do a boost leak test fix the leaks and enjoy your new found power Your turbo will thank you... .:thumb:

Sense when does a Boost leak not affect anything? rhetorical question

Personally I never Had an issues with with the AVC-r when I had one back in the day always did what I wanted it too...

Thats true, ive done a boost leak test already at 25 pounds and the leak is where the throttle twists so ill need to get a new throttle body. hopefully that fixes it. I had one guy tell me something about adjusting the rod that goes to the wastegate, any possibilities?

I would fix the boost leak and sell the AVCR and get a MBC they have been proven much better. This just my opinion though.

That seems strange that out of the blue, it would copy all your B settings to the A location, this is not normal. I've ran the AVC-R for 4-5 years & never had an issue like this. I'd reset it & start from scratch. If the issue happens again, it might be possible yours is defective.

I have one & do not find this at all. Boost is consistant & I don't have huge spikes on spool up like you typically get with a MBC. Do a google search on how to use it properly, I will admit the manual it comes with is pretty useless (maybe alot lost in translation)

Did you actually use the AVC-R? I assum you didn't take the time to learn how to use it, as anyone who did, would not think a MBC is a much better option.

I agree with daren_p, start from scratch and go from there. Something you could also check is how your boost gauge is hooked up. Likely it's fine, but the guy I bought mine from had my pressure line hooked up and didn't zip tie it, so today I zip tied all the lines that werent and noticed my psi was running at 17 and spiking a little, when before it was steady at 15psi. Now I have to go and retune the avcr to correct this. Good luck.

I have personally never used the AVCR. Ive only used the Greddy Profec B II and never had a problem with it. But Ive used Hollman MBC's and never once had a problem either. I just prefer the simply setup and no wires to deal with. I just thought more then half the people with DSM's and Evo's run a MBC. But its all up to the owner of the car you know. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in.

Good luck to the OP these guys on here will help you figure out the problem. Tons of knowledge here.

Since the avcr Is set to control the air going to the wastegate actuator, it's going to respond the same way to a lot of pressure as it would to a little. As long as he is building enough air to reach the threshold specified by him in the avcr's mind, which is read via a sensor that reads pressure unlike a maf, then the avcr is going to respond the same and bleed off air to control the boost right? If he has a boost leak through the throttle body that is releasing pressure to the extent where his car can't build enough pressure to reach his desired ammount of boost then he should get a medal cause that's impressive. I also do not see his boost leak suddenly reaching this extent within the short time he accidentally cleared his settings.

Well, if you've never used the product in question, its probably a good time to keep your 2 cents to yourself ;)

I'm sure most DSMers do use MBC vs EBC's, that doesn't necessarly mean their better. DSMers are about as cheep as they come, so in general, the "best" part is not always what the majority of owners choose.

sorry about the slow reply, busy week... but i did get darens message via phone message and that sounded like the best idea so i check all the wires and restarted it and so far so good, only problem is i still have the duty cycle at 88% to boost at 15... ill have to save a little to get a new throttle body and then ill have no boost leaks so ill keep you updated with what happens and daren, i hope your wrong with the defective part LOL it is 4 years old though...

I've never really heard of an AVC-R failing, so hopefully it was just a glitch. Have you had this/ran it for the past 4 years?

Looks like your running a B16g? With the WG connected directly to a pressure source, what do you see, ~8-9psi? (or what do you see when you turn the AVC-R off?).

Do you have the auto learning turned on or off? What is your target boost level set at? From what I've read, target boost level should only have an effect on actual boost if your in auto mode but from my actual using of it, this doesn't seem to be the case as it also has an effect in the manual mode (I only run in manual/auto learning turned off). Make sure your target boost level is atleast as high as the boost your trying to run. Also remember, its in kg/cm2 & not Bar.

It was a friend of mines avcr and he has had it in this talon for 2 years but had it in his old talon also... i have tried turbing off the avcr and boosting it and it seems to boost at the same boost it was currenty set on before i turned it off.. auto learn is on but from what i read, if the duty cycle isnt close enough to what it should be it will not auto learn.. im am away from my house and car but im pretty sure it is set at 1.25 at 88% duty and that holds 15 steady with a slight creep...
