i have a 99 eclipse gs. thats automatic. its got like 101 000 miles. my reverse doesnt work. it finally gave up on me.it was givin me a grinding vibration feeling when it was workin on its last days. but now it just revs in reverse. at the same time. my drive is fine. i checked my tranny fluid. its fine. anyone have suggestions? thanks.

ive looked through the forums. and all of them talk about manual reverses goin out. i have a AUTOMATIC.

Do you have any trouble pulling it into any of the gears? (i.e. is it hard to move the shifter)

You might try pulling off the linkage from the tranny and putting it in gear by hand (you might need pliers) It's worth a shot.

Other than that... You might be going to the junk yard sometime soon!!!

no i dont have troblem puttin it into gear. u think i need a tranny?

My tranny did the same thing. It lasted like about a week with the other gears.
So it turned out i was grinding the sh!* out of the gears. Any how i got the tranny rebuilt.
It was like $1800 to get it rebuilt.

That's a good possibility... From what you are describing, the gear is just gone.
I would still try to shift it from the engine compartment (with the linkage removed) but chances are it still won't work.

Sorry for the bad news. If you are still unsure, I would bring it to a shop with a newer scan tool. They should be able to access the tranny computer to see if it's doing anything strange... I think at least.

Used transmissions aren't that expensive so you're not out too much. Epically if you can do the work yourself.

Good Luck.

It will be A LOT cheaper if you just get a used one from a junk yard. A LOT!
