Automatic Car Starter Disabler in gear?

i once came across an DIY article on how to wire a Home window magnetic switch from radio shack, into your shifter assembly, so when you try to start the car, if is in gear it will not start only in neutral. I though i was on the VFAQ but did not come across it, if anyone knows where it is can you please help me thanks a lot.

i saw that same thing, its for remote start, so if you try and start your car and its in gear it wont start, i doubt it would work with an automatic because the brake needs to be pressed to start anyways doesnt it? but doesnt it have to be in park to take the key out, thats how my moms/sisters/dads car is... so im sure you dont need it...

This circuit could be easily arranged to work with a magnet on the shifter and the reed switch in the proper location.

My car is a 5 speed manual not automatic, also the brake sensor can aways be bypassed just like the clutch sensor.

just in my experience i have never ran across a car that needed the brake depressed to start it. Automatics just need to be in park or neutral to start nothing to do with the brake. So there would be no need to bypass the boo if you wanted to do that mod to your automatic if you had one.
