I was looking on extreme psi and it say for engine mounts that the manual and auto are diffrent (say A/T or M/T only in captions) does this mean I cant use mounts off a manual car on my auto? even just the same poly inserts?

The M/T inserts will fit all of the A/T mounts except for the front roll stop. The A/T front roll stop is larger in diameter and the hole is more centered. Now here's the kicker. Prothane centers the hole on the front roll stop for the M/T (for some unknown reason) even though it's lower of center from the factory. So, I'm almost positive that you'd be able to source out a M/T front roll stop and install the Prothanes all the way around and it would bolt right in on your A/T. because of the centered hole from prothane, it should line up perfectly +/- 4mm. I'd bet my next paycheck that it would fit.

You should give it a try and let me know if I'm right. ;)

You can use the front roll stop inserts on either one. It's the rear roll stop that's different, I believe (it's been so long since I installed mine on my auto I can't remember).

Instead of just getting inserts, you can get full poly roll-stop replacements that fits autos or manuals from black_gst. Something to think about.

Paul, are you sure? I'm not looking at my car right now, but I could've sworn I installed the inserts on the front roll stop, but the inserts for the rear were too small....

Im almost positive the rear manual prothane is smaller than the auto mount. I will verify when I get to the shop, but I had some sleeves made for a friends auto so the manual prothanes would work.

I called prothane direct and was told only the front was different. But it's definitely possible that I was given bad info. I had originally called them because their catalog doesn't mention or differentiate A/T and M/T. He said they get that call alot, so I imagine the next catalog will be revised.

I went from a auto to a manual and.the prothane kit I bought did not fit my front or rear mounts. The rear mount has too big of a hole for the new insert and the front was just completely different.

I was just planning on buying used ones off another member, with the mount included. I was just unsure if they would bolt up correctly or not. I dont see why they could not just make all the same mounts-_-

Yeah, that's what I thought after I bought Prothane motor mounts for my 2G auto and found that one didn't fit. But that was six years ago.

The manual prothane front and rear mount is for sure smaller than the auto front and rear mount. A sleeve can be made for both of them. Im pretty sure they arent using the inserts up front for a 1g anymore. Ill post a few pics this weekend.

Can't I just take the whole mount off a manual and use it on my auto?

In another case then what would I use to sleeve it?

Does anyone know if all the roll stop brackets are the same on 2gs.. not the mounts but the brackets that go on the transmission.. I know the one on the cross member does..

But is the one in the back of the transmission the same as well?

I want to get one off a auto gst, and use it on my 5 speed awd.

Sorry for reviving and old thread, but I'm still trying to figure this out. I have a 1g auto that needs motor mounts pretty bad. I really wanted to purchase the avid kit but it's no longer available. I also have a 1g m/t car I bought for parts. Looking at the engine bay, the only mount that seems to be different is the left trans mount! From reading this thread I'm getting that I can actually swap the mounts from the m/t to the auto but will need to change the bracket also. Is this for the front stop and rear stop?

Yes motor mount brackets are different. While installing a custom front crossmember with mount on my car ( 1g mt) I noticed it didn't fit. Looked into the Front and back brackets and the previous owner had installed auto brackets. Swapped them out for the manual ones problem fixed.
