At what amount torque is a 6 puck disc needed with a 2600?

I was just wondering how much torque is to much for the street disc with a 2600pp, a 6 puck clutch should be installed when running what amount of torque?

Probably more than 450 ft-lbs (I am not saying 450 is the most it can hold, but I know it can hold at least that much for sure). However, it depends on the car, the driver, the amount of racing done, etc.

My street disk started to give up around 430ft/lbs. I got about 15 passes at the strip out of it and one dayduring a hard pull in 4th gear on the interstate it started to slip.

Interesting information Jeff. There are a couple local guys deep into the 11's / high 10's, and they don't have issues with their 2600.

I think it's a "your milage may vary" sort of thing...

I've made about 40-50 passes this year with my ACT street disc and a 2900 PP. The car was making 457 ft/lbs and I had no clutch/slippage issues. I nkow the PP makes a difference but I figured I'd at least weigh in since I'm using a street disc.

Yeah. I thought it was a bit odd myself. It had about ten 127+ mph passes on it on slippery street tires. It would hold fine in the low gears where there was a lot of wheelspin, but after the day on the interstate it would start to slip on the big end.

I have the solid 6 puck in the car now and it wont slip for anything, but its absolutely brutal. The car shakes like a bulldozer if you back up at low rpm while gently slipping the clutch out. Honestly I hate it, but it holds the power. I should have ditched the 2600PP all together and gone to a 2900/street disk combo or a sprung 6 puck of some kind. Oh well, I'm not pulling the tranny again until something breaks. :thumb:

I'm running a 2100 and a spung 6-puck, and I think it's a pretty good combo. I bet the chatter isn't much less than with a 2600, but with the lighter pedal pressure I think it's a lot more manageable.

I'm not making enough torque to push the clutch though (~300 ft-lbs), so I can't comment on that.

My 2900 with a street disc has been handling the 2.4 torque well so far (in the wet I spun all 4 in the top of third coming out of a freeway on ramp sweeper :thumb: ). It drives just like a 2600.

The 2600/street disc is rated at 400fl lbs from ACT.

I'm going to semi-hijack this thread, because I can't find a whole lot of info elsewhere.

Kyle, what clutch disk/pp do you run? I, too, was looking at running this (Mach V sells them, but ACT disks aren't sprung, or so I've read) and didn't know whether or not I should go with this setup or a 2600/street disk.

Let me know of any downsides/upsides that are worth mentioning. I'd like to run a 2100 PP for obvious reasons, but I don't fear getting a 2600. Just looking at my other options.

Thanks a bunch, and sorry for the hijack OMG

you werent hijacking anything, it was a good post, it seems like alot of force to push a 2600, how much more is a 2900?

ACT has changed their manufacturing process on the 2900. They have moved the pivot point on the PP. The pedal pressure on a 2900 is actually less than a 2600 now.

ACT 2100 pressure plate, clutchnet sprung 6-puck disc.

The Clutchnet disc is a beautiful piece, and it is about 5 times beefier than the ACT discs. However, the extra weight also means that it's just going to be harder on synchros.

I have a couple pictures of it here, but they will not around forever:

I like it so far, but it's not for everyone.

Since when is this true, out of curiosity?

As of last spring. When I got mine, the PP was stamped MB-010x just like the 2600. My first thought was that they sent me a 2600. I called and they assured me that I had the right one and that the 2600 and 2900 now use the same engraved MB-010x. When I installed the clutch, I couldn't believe how soft the pedal pressure was compared to my previous 2600 from last year. I called them back (and Buschur who sold it to me) and got conformation from ACT and Tym Switzer that they had changed their manufacturing process and moved the pivot point so the feel was going to be very different.

I was still skeptical going into the season but the car has made about 40-50 dyno pulls and about 40 passes at 500whp+. I recently had the tranny out and the clutch looks VERY GOOD. I was shocked.

"It's not for everyone." Are you referring to the engagement (they're supposed to not be able to slip much.)

I'm not going to bi*** if it grabs hard, because that's obviously why I'm buying a new clutch. The car is a daily driver, and I'm sure I could get used to the way it grabs.

"Extra wear" - anything to be worried about? Even though the car is a daily driver, it doesn't rack up many miles.

Approximately how much airflow are you pushing Nick? Sounds freaking nasty.

Beats me, I think my tires just suck in the rain now :thumbdown
Really though the couple passes I made today sucked, it did 115 at 17psi while knocking up a storm. Thing pulls awesome at the street, get to the track and it sucks. I'm just throwing in C16 and cranking it to 30psi, pumpgas is to d*mned finicky.
