AT or MT?

Does anyone have an auto that's high HP (over 500 or 600 whp) who's transmission did not take a crap on them? I'm in the process of building a stroker 6 bolt and am trying to figure out what to do to with the drivetrain. WTF

Please only post if you have an auto with real knowledge. No speculation.

Current goal is 650whp.

IPT trans, shep racing trans, dogbox trans, etc. There are many high powered applications out there. My suggestion? Take a look at our DSMTuners track times and PM those guys that are making good power with ATX.

An A/T tranny in good shape can take all sorts of power. Slap a trans lab shift kit on there, with IPT's end clutch kit, and an upgraded tranny cooler and go for it!

You will need at least some upgrades to keep the tranny from failing. I highly doubt there are any DSM's with 650 whp and the stock trans let alone 500 whp ones, it would hold back power and most likely break. You can get a full race tranny from IPT w/ higher stall TQ converter and you will be good, or just rebuild your transmission and add a shift kit, manual valve, end clutch kit, custom TQ converter, and a decent sized trans cooler. There are different options for us AT guys but take a look at IPT and give them an email and they will put you in the right direction.

Well, it looks like I'm going to get an W4A33 transmission and billet converter from ITP. Looks likes I should be good up to 900-1000hp or so.

So much for the 5 speed swap.

i plan on looking into upgrading the tranmission once my D350 truck is paid off in the spring. Odds are ill be doing it all myself (learning experience anyone??) but i hope that the elminate labor costs will help offset the end cost of the project, seeing ill be left with just parts costs.
