my car has a rebuilt motor in it with zero miles on it. has not left the drive way yet. it has only idled for a few mins here and there. when i finaly put it on the road, do i have to retorque the arp headstuds? when do i do this after a certain amount of miles or just cruise it around the block and then retorque them.? do i do it when the motor is still hot or wait for it to cool?

Run it through the first heatcycle, change the oil and what not then let the car completely cool down over night, then re-torque the studs when cold. :thumb:

so wait, let me understand this better.... you're saying change the oil after the first time of warming up and cooling down?

On a brand new engine, yes. Run it through a heat cycle for liek 20 minutes. Its the most critical part to breaking in an engine. After that heatcycle immediately change oil and filter. The filter is going to be contaminatd with assembly lube, metal shavings from rings and bearings seating and the oil will have some debris in it as well. Change all that before the car ever sees the road, then change the oil in 500mile intervals until about 2k and you should be good.

Word, I will give that a try. I'm using a single weight non detergent motor oil for my break in.... I was told to do this because it would glaze everything and cause the sealing of piston rings to be better off in the long run.

You can, i always use el cheapo 20w-50 but straight weight oil will work fine.
