Ok guys,

I'm about to remove my head studs, are there any tips you can give me so I do not break them off in the block... I was told they are ARP, if they do not look stretched should I reuse them?

My buddy that build's high hp hotrods said do not reuse the head studs especially since I have a blown head gasket, just get a whole set.

I found a set on extreme psi EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts will these hold 20 pounds of boost without stretching? Or do I need to get a custom set since the car does not come boosted stock?

Reuse or buy a new set?

If I buy a new set will the one from extreme psi work?

Thanks guys

If they are arp's they should be good to re use. To remove them you should just have to take an allen key to the head of them and turn them out after you remove the nut.

ARP headstuds are studs not bolts. If you have bolts holding down the head than they are the stock TTY bolts and must be replaced after every use.

When I was taking my motor apart I just zipped mine stock head bolts with a 3/8 gun same with main and rod bolts no issues motor had 163*** miles. they should never break if ## careful

Look stretched? Most bolts will only be stretched (in most cases) a few thousandths. To give you an idea, the average human hair is 3 thousandths aka .003" measurement. I'm not sure how you can see if its stretched, only true way to to know the bolts measurements via a micrometer before and after, and each bolt will vary. IMO replace the bolts with some ARP head studs. $100 for the insurance, is cheap.

with a 420a turbo'd engine its always better to be save then sorry. but arp's are really good, like said perviously studs are not bolts. if you take your head bolts out then i would measure the threads. there are a few post on here about bolt streach and how to measure properly.

I called ARP and the said I have the same studs that they run in top fuel drag cars... he reassured me 10 times that these head studs will not stretch and if they do then I can send the individual stud in for a new one. As far as figuring out if they are stetch... the guy at ARP said that I just need to torque them down to the recommended amount, if it wont click at the recommended lever then it is stretched. Makes since to me.
