Hey guys, I've done a little searching and haven't come up with anything substantial yet, so I figured I would just post a new thread. Last week I lost my timing belt and went ahead and took off my head to check out the damage. The good news was I don't have any (really couldn't believe it with all the horror stories I've seen). Now that my head is off I've been thinking about some mild mods. This is my daily driver so I don't want to get ridiculous or full out race, just thinking about some cams, stainless valves, springs, header etc...
What I wasn't able to find out was is the 420 head restrictive stock or does it flow fairly well in it's stock form? I haven't been able to find a machine shop locally that will do anything with it, and if it isn't really necessary I was just going to have a little fun and get the bolt ons.
Keep in mind that I don't want to do any racing at all, I just drive it back and forth to work but I would like to be able to have a little fun as well.

Thanks guys!!

the 420a head outflows the 4g63 head. i heard it was a head from a scrapped lotus engine. but ya it flows pretty good, although doing some port work will definalty give you more power

Great, I'm just hoping that this won't be a waste of money, I'm not going for "fastest n/t" or anything, just a little fun.
Would you think that anything above Crower Stage 2 or Crane 12's would be too much for a non ported intake? Or just stick with the stage 1/10's?
There seems to be quite a lively debate on these in the forums, but I haven't noticed any numbers on either yet... still looking around.

Thanks again!!!

i dont have any personnel experience with the cams, but i will just tell ya what i would do. i would get the 12's, just incase you decide to boost or spray later. cause you dont want to have to buy 2 sets of cams do ya? just my .02

No bullshit from me on this one. Check out www.fierroracing.com My head and intake mani are shown under services or something. Eddy Fierro is a great guy and will give you an honest answer as to what sort of mods will give you the most bang for your buck. You don't really need massive port work and all that. Your head will flow just fine. It all depends on how much fun you want to have. Drop Eddy a line and he'll set you straight.

Thanks for all the input guys, and to be perfectly honest I really have no intention of boosting or spraying at all. Probably until I sell it, this is my "economy" car and right now I'm just trying to sneak in as many things as I can under the radar since I warned my girl that this would get expensive because this engine bends valves :shhh:
I have a 1979 Cutlass with a partially built 455 that I'm going to use to get my kicks with, I really would just like to have some more spunk with this car. I would love for it to pull as hard as my old 99 Prelude did, but I don't think that will happen anytime soon. I checked out the fierro racing page and I'm going to do some of the polishing and porting that he shows on there, and I'm going to research some bigger TB's since my area has tons of salvage yards with some pretty good deals on most things I've got so far.
Right now I'm thinking of getting the 12's, valves, header, cam gears, and the rest of the valvetrain components.
Thanks for all the help guys, it's appreciated!!!!!
Oh, and if anyone has some more ideas on things I can do while the head is off (I'm replacing the water pump) let me know.
Thanks again.
