Are they really that bad?

I'm thinking about getting a 97-99 GSX or GST. Everybody keeps telling me they always have problems and will cost me alot of money for repairs. I really love these cars but I don't want it to be breaking down on me all the time. I wanted to ask you guys with GSX's or GST's if yours always has problems or does everybody just think that. I want your honest opinions, thanks in advance.

I wish people would relax about reliability issues, if you take care of her she'll take care of you . Any car making serious horsepower and pushed to the limit is doomed to break down.

I drived my GST pretty hard, even wheel hoped the hell out of it one night and it still drives fine at 65K miles. No major problems.

I love my 99 GST!! And yeah man, your car will treat you the way you treat it. Granted you might have some minor fluke you have to replace or repair, but that comes with owning any vehicle. Dont pay no mind to what others say if you feel strongly about getting either car. Properly maintain it, and you will love it.

Ive broken my car more than anyone with a 2g that I know, but I have no mercy on it and I also have another vehicle to drive. Dont abuse it and it wont let you down. Keep the maintenance up just like anything else and it wil be reliable.

I've had my car for about two and a half years with no problems. It has 106,xxx and i've had nothing but regular maintinance and a water pump, and the last year has been with my mods. just take care of it and don't beat the hell out of it and you will be fine.

Take alook around this and other DSM boards, and you tell me why these poor little turds have a reputation problem.

The noisy owners tend to beat the living crap out of them every time they let out the clutch.

Many of us have no issues at all, but of course, we don't have much to make noise about.

Considering I'm making about 50% horsepower over stock and I have crashed my car at fairly high speed, I think it has done a pretty good job in terms of reliability. The biggest repair I have had to make (New clutch) was completely my fault. Try launching a good 30 times at 6K RPM on a stock clutch with 90K on it already and see how long it lasts in any other car. I did have to replace the valve cover gasket, but that only takes an hour to replace and $20-30 for parts. Also, I have had to replace my rear wheel bearings, but that was definitely a result of my crash. I'm extremely surprised my rear axle didn't break.

Yeah, 7/8 + year old cars, with high mileage, not maintained right and run to crap, of course they are going to need repairs, I think it just gets a bad rep cuz some people are stupid. Once properly taken care of, it is just as reliable as any other car. For me, I see repairs as an excuse to take my car apart
