Are there any good braces for these cars?

I've looked around quite a bit and I can't find a decent stut bar, shock tower brace, tie bar, or any crossmember brace. I've seen a ton of those crappy 3-piece models :notgood: , but I'm looking for some 1-piece units :thumb: . The guys at Benen Industries make an awesome Tri-Pod brace and I'm thinking of asking them to make one for my car. Before I dive in to a million dollars of custom work, I was hoping somebody would know of some decent bars for these cars.

have not seen a single piece strut bar for the eclipse. however, just because it uses an adjustable connection, that does not mean a 3 piece setup is any less functional. as a matter of fact, one could argue that one could induce a certain amount of preload to the bar if the ends were adjustable. if you are stuck with a single piece design, you might just have to shell out the money. though i could not fathom why...a bar is a bar no matter how much you spend.

That does makes sense. The theory of more flex points is what sold me to believe that a 1-piece design would be more efficient, especially a tripod brace for the front which also mounts to the firewall for extra support. Check it out at: www.benen.com

Jim is right; it's not the rigidity that makes the bar work it's the tension. Hell, you could do it with a cable if the damn engine wasn't in the way. But the idea of using diagonals to further eliminate flex does have merit. If one could find a way to measure movement of the strut towers in relation to the firewall it could be determined if such a device might be beneficial.

Check out the DC strut tower braces that extreme sells. These are the ones I have and are the most solid, reasonably priced ones I have seen. I have seen a few billet aluminum front bars but they went for $200. The front bar that they have pictured is not correct, the front only uses one cross bar but is still a solid one piece unit. The rear is the exact one and it is ridiculous how stiff that thing is. You could jump on the middle of it and it wouldn't flex. :thumb:

www.9secondracing.com sells front and rear DC Sport bars for $89 each.

I personally like the APR strut bar below.

RRE does.

Also you mount anything to the firewall you're going to be moved into Modified (not street mod) in autocross if that matters at all to you.

Put a cage in, foam the side rails, and seam weld the chassis. Strut tower bars, up front at least, are like using a garden hose to put out a forest fire.

I would think most braces that use good brackets(plate steel not sheet metal), and a solid tube would be good. But I can weld/fabricate, so i made my own. I don't really know much about the ones for sale.

could you please explain "foaming the pillars/side rails"? I have heard it mentioned before but haven't heard anything in particular about it. Thanks. pm it to me if it is too long, i dont want to hijack the thread.

My car is seam welded and I have put in a cage. My rear strut tower "brace" is a piece of 120 wall tubing welded to 1/8 in steel plate which is welded to the strut towers. the seam welding/cage made a huge difference in the car. If you are going to get some strut tower braces made I can go into more detail about mine if it would help.

Triangulated bars are legal in Prepared, so you would only get kicked to FP.
