are fwd axles and awd axles the same??

ok so i need a driver side axle for my 1g awd talon its clicking pretty bad when i let out the clutch and it shakes a lil bit in 5 and 4th gear when i give it alot of gas.so i think the axle is part of it but would my car vibrate if the axle is shot???are fwd ones the same as awd??

Look at the boots of the axles and see if ther cracked and theres no grease in them

ill have to check tommorow.... every were i look i see that the axles are the same for fwd and awd but some people say different .i think it has grease in it but ill check.the clicking is like a rocking click i got an act 2600 pretty stiff clutch.soon as it grabs feels like the axle is rocking forward and a loud click.it doesnt click when i turn though??

just call the any parts store (advance, auto zone, napa) and ask them. they will be able to tell u if they are the same

Couldn't be farther from the truth. First of all, the driver's side axle is longer on the FWD, the AWD counterpart mounts to the block and has another shaft from the block to tranny. The FWD goes straight to the tranny. Second, I am not 100%, but I believe the passenger side axle has a different spline count. Otherwise, the passenger side axle fits FWD to AWD. Definitely not the driver's side axle, as the OP mentioned is the issue.

That is correct, the AWD driver side axle is composed of two pieces. You can use a FWD axle though, it is just one solid axle, but it does reach.

fwd driver side will not work, there is not enough clearance for the CV Joint. The Joint hits on the Transfer case, you need to get this - CV Axle Shaft Assembly by Fenco - Part CV3715 - Advance Auto Parts

Hey guys,
The passenger side is the same in 90-92 FWD trans as AWD. The 93/94's axles are different (bigger). Alternatively, the 90-92 diff accepts AWD axles if you wanted to do a half shaft and get rid of that long driver fwd axle.

ok so i took a look at it today and i see a whole big glob of thick grease all over the back of the oil pan and all around the axle.the thing i dont get is how is it blown and it only clicks when i start to move not when i turn??..could it be my ball joints that are clicking when i take off or is that grease comin from my axle??

The grease keeps it from binding and wearing on the parts. If the boots are cracked and loosing grease then they will fail eventually but doesnt mean there blown. Just take it easy on them until you get replacments.

Just get a new axle at a parts store.

The driver's side one is totally different awd vs fwd.

yea ima pick one up friday im just gonna let it sit for a while dont wanna break anything else.the act clutch is pretty aggressive so my luck i probly would be stuck some were with a broke axle..... thanks guys

should i get the fenco one or the duralast one.the duralast is from autozone and its 49.99 and the fenco is from advance and its 59.99 they both come with life warranty which one would be better to get or does it matter???
