I just put in a Hahn smic. I am seriously thinking of making the opening on that side of the car larger. Maybe even as big as the size of the front of the Hahn smic. I noticed the intake temps were a lot lower when I had the front clip off. I wonder how much airflow is being restricted by the front clip. I know I know alot of guys will say well why didn't ya just get a fmic instead. I might also have to ask myself that question. Anybody here hacked their front clip? If so can ya post pictures?

Pleanty of us have trimmed our bumpers to make the FMICs fit and I do not see why you can't do the same for yourself and your SMIC. I have personally seen the inner fender skirt (Behind the IC) have a large opening cut in it and chicken wire put in it to maximize flow through the IC. As for the front,t ake a little masking tape and mask off the desired area to see if you would like the athestics of the new hole and cut it with a dremel if you like it. Have you checked the VFAQ for some other ideas?

I think what he means is that at least hacking for a fmic is going to be symmetrical. Not for a sidemount. Not to mention how much ugly crap you're going to see by hacking out enough to open that smic up.

I agree, just run it how it is, improve the ducting to it, clear out the back behind it, or. . . just sell it and get a fmic.

Start with some lowly duct tape and make all the air coming in the side vent go through the intercooler. You may get enough payoff just in stopping spillover; if it works, build some permanent ducting from aluminum flashing or the like. Also, try opening up the vents in the fenderwell so the air can escape through the IC.

I cut the inner fender well to match the size of the Hahn smic so at least on the back of it the air is flowing freely If I cut the front clip to match the size of the smic I wouldn't want to leave it unfinished. i would want to possibly fiberglass
