Anyone with 50 trim & camshaft combo experience?

NA,
I've read about 1 million posts with thousands of opinions on which cam combination is the best. I have HKS 264/264 combo with a RS49 50-trim. Has anyone actually done a comparison of 264/264 vs 264/272 with a large turbo? I am wondering if getting a 272 exhaust cam would be worth it. BTW I have already seen the automotorsports comparison, that is only good for 16g's anyway.

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY IF YOU DON'T HAVE FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE WITH THESE CAM COMBOS ON A LARGER TURBO! I AM NOT LOOKING FOR HERE-SAY OR MOST POPULAR SETUPS.

Unfortunately I can't say that I've used a 264 duration intake cam on my car, but I currently use 272's on both the intake and exhaust side and wouldn't change it. I couldn't be happier with these cams. The top end difference they make is what makes them worth the while for me. I've been in other DSM's with the same setup as me but using the race grind webb cams. They seem like they were pretty good cams in the 50 trim equipped DSM's I have seen them in, but I still like the 272's more.

What are you currently trapping? I trapped 117 with a 50 trim(AGP) and the 264/272 combo last year. This was done on an otherwise stock 2g motor. Just trying to give you a comparison.

One of our shop cars is trapping 127 mph on a stock longblock w/ a PTE 50 trim.

Is this Kevin Smith you are talking about? His time on DSMtimes says 122.xx. 4.5MPH is a big difference. What is he doing different?

That'd be the car. We took it out fri night but were having problems w/ 4th gear so no good ET's but some nice mph. Swapped trans's and are planning on taking the car back to the track tomorrow looking for a 10 sec slip.

Update: 11.23@128mph. PTE 50 trim stock longblock. It appears the car just doesn't have enough power to propel it into the 10's quite yet, but soon!!!

Those are great numbers man. Stock cams right? Is the car a tin can? :)

What is the vehicle weight on that car? 128 is flyin on stock cams and a 50t.

For me it was 123.6 on stock cams, and 124.7 on 272s. That was in a 3100lb car though (daily driver).

i currently run the 264/272 setup degreed for a little extra overlap on my full garret 50 trim powered car... it works great but i think i'd rather have the 272 intake cam if i was doing it over again. i have managed to trap 111 on pump gas @ 20 lbs of boost with ZERO weight reduction with this combo.... don't have any race gas numbers yet

I was answering a question so it did have something to do w/ this topic...

And the car we're discussing has a 50 trim not a SCM61, once again like the topics says...
