hey guys i just bought a oem head and a set of crane cams Part Number: 431-0014 Grind Number: MIT-246-2SR-8 off a guy on ebay for 700.00 bucks he said that the cams could be used for both with a turbo or without is this true crane cams website just says this

Features our unique ?split duration? lobe profile design (exhaust duration is less than intake duration). ?Spools? turbo faster for quicker boost and response. Reduces turbo lag time. Strong upper mid to top end with turbo. For max power use intercooler and low restriction intake/exhaust. RPM range 1,500-6,800

so i have no clue if thay will work with out a turbo

Yowzers :toobad: looks like he got you. A new set of Crower NA's (and Crane's for that matter) go for about $500 shipped. The cams you have, look like they're turbo grind. It'll work with your NA but won't get you $700 worth. Kinda in the "stage 1" area.

jeez thats alot of money for a head with just cams.... ALOT

I’m torn between the crane and the crower turbo cams!! If you were going to go turbo I would go ahead and install it and get it out the way; however, if you don’t plan on going turbo I would try to find another cam for NA like the crane 12’s or the crower stage 2 n/a because of Exhaust duration. If your cams/head are used then you paid too much. If you do decide to install the cams it may be smart to get MS to control fuel and spark before the turbo. Good luck on the build.....

well the head also came with the following parts Crane #431-0014 Camshaft Set

Fidanza Adjustable Cam Gears

PEP stainless steel valves

Crane Valve Springs and Titanium Retainers

SBI PT Cruiser Style Rocker Arms

SBI PT Cruiser Style Lifters

i just wont to no if i can use the head!!! with out haveing to add any more parts to make it work

yes you can use it. I ran a P&P head with crane 14s for a little over a year NA without any problems. Maybe you lose a little low end torque but gain a little power up top, I don't know, but you'll be fine.

But, is he going to benefit from these?

I thought this answered that;

It'll work with your NA but won't get you $700 worth. Kinda in the "stage 1" area.

Stage 1 meaning you'll get some extra "pop" out of those cams but nothing that will burn up the track.

I see that there is more info on what you got for your $700. With the current information at hand, I retract my previous statement on him "getting you" ;)

And in a more direct answer to your original question; YES YOU CAN.

After all the additonal items that came with the head, I still don't think thats a very bad deal. If it were just the cams for $700, then yeah it may be, but for the total package it's a good start.

I ran Crane 0014's when I was N/A for about a year. I had a stock motor but then swapped it out for a fully built with all the wistles, so I couldn't tell you what performance gain I noticed from just the cams.

I've been boosted for about 3 years now and haven't had any problems. I have pretty good spool up though and I would like to think the cams have something to do with that.

well tell me this i wont to turbo it but i am not sure how hard it will be to do it my self!! i am very smart when it comes to the motor and trans and bolt on parts... i switched my dsm from a auto to a manual trans and that was easy. so how hard is it going to be? i already have the intercooler and piping but that's it

If I am not mistaken the crane 14's are the closest that you will get to a turbo grind with crane (I could be wrong though). Crower makes a stage 2 turbo grind ones that help because they actually dont have that high overlap. There is a very useful article on cam selection on 2gnt.com, now that they rearranged everything it will be really easy to find.

Most of the time people recommend the crower turbo stage 2 because most of the cranes are made for NA applications.

I went with the crane 16's on a built engine with lower compression and I can definitely feel the difference. My engine is completely dead until I hit 4800rpms, after that then I start to pull. I will turbo my car in the future so I will probably be swaping the cranes with the stockers to see how it goes, and write an article about it.

Either way, if you are going turbo the engine then the adjustable cam gears should help you dial out some of the overlap if it necessary.
